WV Crossroads Project group: post-rehearsal with Shannon and members of Trillium Performing Youth at The Lewis Theater. Junie is working simultaneously with our teen NYC dancers while Shannon is working in rural VA and WV. Fingers crossed we can bring these groups together in real life in the next year!

The NY Crossroads group met for the first time last Tuesday with Junie, as part of our low-risk dance-based classes. The Crossroads Project intersects NYC and Appalachian teens, helping them find common humanity, de-stigmatize local identity, break down stereotypes, and achieve the understanding and unity needed for collective change. The Crossroads project is part of our series of low-risk arts-based classes-- these DOH approved low-risk programs explore history, culture, anatomy, and low-intensity choreo/improv movement elements.

Throughout this pandemic I have been so impressed and proud of how this community has rerouted its creative energy into new positive endeavors while their regular daily pursuits and passions have been placed on hold. Z’Yanah Gonzalez - who has been dancing at Cora since she was 5 and is now 14 - is a shining example of that. Z’Yanah danced at Cora 7 days a week up until March 13. The absence of that leaves a lot of creative space to fill in an artists heart and Z’Yanah fille...d it by starting her own body products business. So proud of you Z’Yanah and all the artists of every age who have found their own new paths to keeping their creative sparks alive! Thank you! Come check out more artists selling their handmade items TODAY from 2-6pm at Cora’s Creative Canteen as part of the Red Hook Business Alliance’s Holiday Market!! Support local arts. Go home happy. Happy holidays everyone!! #coradance #coramickelle #redhook #creativecanteen #growingupcora
