Prevention is through your dog’s routine distemper vaccine, as it is a combination vaccine. While treatment is possible, it is very costly, which may be prohibitive for some owners. But even with treatment, this virus can be deadly Please contact your veterinarian immediately if your dog is exhibiting symptoms (vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy) and to be sure he/she is up to date with vaccinations.
