MESSAGE FROM THE TOWN OF WAWARSING SUPERVISOR TERRY HOUCK: As of today, Tuesday, April 7, 2020 there are 32 confirmed cases of coronavirus and that is 32 too ma...ny! The numbers have increased from 9 last Wednesday to 11, 15, 21 to 32 confirmed cases. This is the second week that the Ellenville Regional Hospital has had their Coronavirus Mobile testing site on their property. It’s absolutely necessary to practice social distancing and take the Pause Order by Governor Cuomo seriously to reduce your risk of infection and keep others safe. If you are sick, and you think you may have coronavirus symptoms, contact your health provider who will assess your condition and if needed, will order a script for you to go to the Ellenville Regional Hospital testing site, Monday through Friday, 9am to 2pm. If you do not have a primary care physician, you should contact the Ulster County Hotline at 845-443-8888. To contact Ellenville Regional Hospital regarding Covid-19 please call 845-647-6400 Ext. 269 We all have a responsibility to ourselves, our family, our friends and Our Community to stop the spread of covid-19. In an effort to avoid infection and stay healthy in a dangerous situation follow the guidelines of the CDC (center for disease control). Saturday, April 4, 2020, Lippman Park was closed for an undetermined period. The decision to close Lippman was due in part to the Governor’s rules of social distancing not being followed and mass gathering restrictions due to the covid-19 which endangers our community. Other parks such as Mohonk Preserve have been closed and Sam’s Point has reduced their traffic into the park by 50% therefore increasing our Lippman Park traffic. Additionally, folks were setting up social engagements at Lippman which goes against the Governor’s orders. On top of that our Town employees have been reduced by 50% and more based on the Governor’s orders. We just don’t have the necessary staff to open the park and keep everyone safe. I understand and encourage our residents to get some fresh air and sun but, also; we all should look for solitude in places where there is not a lot of activity. AND NOW FOR A MORE POSITIVE NOTE: The Village of Ellenville and the Town of Wawarsing employees have done an incredible job above and beyond their duties to provide the essential services to the residents of our Community. Even though our staffing has been reduced every department is and has been open for business! You can call the Town of Wawarsing at 647-6570 and listen for the department Ext. you are looking for. The Ellenville Village Hall number is 647-7080 and listen to the menu for the department as well. A BIG THANK YOU TO ALL OUR EMERGENCY RESPONDERS AND VOLUNTEERS FOR CONTINUOUSLY PUTTING YOURSELVES OUT THERE, GOING ABOVE AND BEYOND TO HELP OUR COMMUNITY Thank you to the Napanoch, Ellenville, Kerhonkson and Cragsmoor Fire District volunteers who have coordinated with each other with the Best protocols to follow during this covid-19 crisis. Thank you to the Ellenville and Accord First Aid and Rescue Squads for all you do every day and especially now! Thank you to the Ellenville Police Department for putting yourselves on the line each and every day to protect our community and also attend to our less fortunate resident’s in our Community in this time of need! Thank you to our local Ulster County Sheriff’s Substation personnel and NYS Trooper barracks personnel in responding to all the calls and keeping our Community safe! Please go to our TownofWawarsing.net website for information about the services that are being provided to our residents. For continued real time updates, stay tuned to this Facebook page. Stay safe, Terry Houck Town of Wawarsing Supervisor
