In mid-December, a large tree fell across the trail and destroyed a bridge on the Orange trail just east of the Mason Valley ponds. A crew from the Parks department cleared the path within a few days, but we have been unable to replace the bridge until today. With decent weather and help from Perinton Parks Department preparing and transporting the lumber, to near the site, the Silver Fox team cleared the stream and constructed a 13-foot bridge this morning.

Ready to ring in the New Year?! Join us for a special moonlight hike on Dec 31 at Horizon Hill as we say goodbye to 2020 and hello to 2021. We'll be hiking along the trails within Horizon Hill out to Woodcliffe. Bring flashlights, headlamps, appropriate winter clothing, a mask, and most importantly, an adventurous spirit. It'll be a fun and safe way to celebrate together, outdoors.

It's been quite a year! A big thank you to everyone who has hit the trails over the last few months and for the new faces coming to our monthly guided hikes. Our dedicated volunteers and Board members are making it all happen behind the scenes. If you're thinking of donating this holiday season, don't forget about the Crescent Trail Hiking Association. We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and rely on community donations to support our trail maintenance efforts, community events, marketing, and more. Any little bit helps! Enjoy the holidays! Yesterday, Eagle Scout candidate Noah Reilly of troop 260, and his team constructed the 40-foot bridge on the Yellow trail between Lyndon Road and Turk Hill Road south of the canal. The project fills a gap in that branch trail, created when the old bridge was swept away by a storm in August of 2018. Used power poles were delivered in March, just before COVID-19 halted scout activities, delaying construction until now. The team did a great job from start to finish including planning , fund raising, purchasing and preparing materials, and construction. Thanks to Noah and troop 260 for this fine addition to the Crescent Trail.

The Parks Department operates 15 diverse parks and trails throughout the Town of Perinton. The various parks feature a wide variety of fields, courts, open spac...e, buildings, shelters, and other amenities. We work closely with the Crescent Trail Hiking Association to administer a vast network about 35 miles - of hiking trails. During the summer months and throughout the hiking season, we will feature parks and trails on our Social Media pages. Today we visit Indian Hill. Indian Hill is located off of Pittsford-Palmyra Road (Highway 31) in the southeast quadrant of Perinton. This open space consists of approximately 35 acres and is primarily wooded. This area is known for its trails. Trails within Indian Hill connect with other sections of the Crescent Trail, allowing users options for longer hikes. A direct open space connection is formed between the Indian Hill, Thayer Hill, and Dewitt Open Space Properties through the Town’s ownership of development rights on private property. Amenities include: Hiking/Trails Horseback Nature Area

On a section of the Blue loop just south of Whitney Road and west of Wakeman Road, a large beech tree with a rotted section about 15 feet from the ground was broken by the wind. The top of the tree came down over the trail, taking several smaller trees with it, but remained attached to the very tall stump. We called on some of our experienced tree expert volunteers to determine if we could safely clear the trail of this hazard. The work was carefully undertaken this morning by Harvey Rhody, Bob Kremens, Dave Wiener and Bud Gearhart, as shown in the photos. It was a big job, well done. Thanks, guys. Jim U.

As Summer wraps up and Fall is in the air, there is still plenty to do outside before the snow flies. The Town of Perinton suggests residents of all ages partic...ipate in Wegmans Hit the Trail Passport program on the Crescent Trail. Passport booklets can be picked up at Perinton Wegmans or the Perinton Community Center. Pick at least 10 trails you would like to explore, and use the special rubbing found on trail signage to mark your passport. Drop off your completed passport to the PCC by October 31 for a chance to win a $250 Wegmans gift card. The Crescent Trail is nearly 35 miles long, but the hikes in the passport are short-distance walks of less than two hours that loop around to end where you started. You can do 4 or 5 mile hikes, or go up to 16 miles, all within Perinton. So get out and explore the trails around you, enjoy the changing colors of Fall and maybe win a prize!
