INFO ABOUT CLOTHES DRYERS (I do this all the time) The heating unit went out on my dryer! The gentleman that fixes things around the house for us told us that h...e wanted to show us something and he went over to the dryer and pulled out the lint filter. It was clean. (I always clean the lint from the filter after every load clothes.) He told us that he wanted to show us something; he took the filter over to the sink and ran hot water over it. The lint filter is made of a mesh material. I'm sure you know what your dryer's lint filter looks like. Well...the hot water just sat on top of the mesh! It didn't go through it at all! He told us that dryer sheets cause a film over that mesh and that's what burns out the heating unit. You can't SEE the film, but it's there. It's what is in the dryer sheets to make your clothes soft and static free. That nice fragrance too. You know how they can feel waxy when you take them out of the box...well this stuff builds up on your clothes and on your lint screen. This is also what causes dryer units to potentially burn your house down with it! He said the best way to keep your dryer working for a very longtime (and to keep your electric bill lower) is to take that filter out and wash it with hot soapy water and an old toothbrush (or other brush) at least every six months. He said that makes the life of the dryer at least twice as long! How about that!?! Learn something new every day! I certainly didn't know dryer sheets would do that. So, I thought I'd share! Note: I went to my dryer and tested my screen by running water on it. The water ran through a little bit but mostly collected all the water in the mesh screen. I washed it with warm soapy water and a nylon brush and I had it done in 30 seconds. Then when I rinsed it, the water ran right thru the screen! There wasn't any puddling at all! That repairman knew what he was talking about! See more

Come on down, we have lots of great trees to choose from, tree lighting at 7PM.
The kids are back to school, and that means more school buses on are the roads. Remember that it is illegal for motorists to pass a school bus that is stopped w...ith its red lights flashing and stop arm extended. Whether you are approaching the bus from the front or are behind it you must stop, even if you are across a divided highway or on school grounds. Flashing lights mean the bus is picking up or dropping off students, who frequently must cross the street to reach their destination. An estimated 50,000 cars illegally pass school buses every day in New York, according to the New York Association for Pupil Transportation. Protect our children; stop for school buses! See more

Blood drives are back! With Covid-19 1000’s of blood drives were canceled causing a huge blood shortage. They are now back and have safe protocols in place. Please make an appointment and come see us Friday! (Walk-ins welcome, appointments preferred)
During these past few months we have put lots and lots of smiles of kids faces doing the drive by Birthday parades, we even did a wedding!! As the state begins to move through the phases of opening, our call volume has risen. We unfortunately need to discontinue the drivebys at this time. We hope you enjoyed them! Thanks for your support during these times!
Unfortunately due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the NY Blood has canceled all remote blood drives. We at CSHFD usually host a blood drive in June. As we are unable to host this annual event we ask that you go to your local blood center and give our "Donation Site" code. The next time we host a blood drive we will get "credit" for your donation. Our code is 03005. Thank You https://nybc.org/donate/donor-center-locations-march-2020/
We are teaming up with CSHCares, collecting food for the less fortunate. If you have something to donate, let us know we will pick it up next Thursday afternoon!
