It’s a wet, near freezing day here in Tonawanda, New York...the perfect day to try and involve my kids with cookie making. And I’ve chosen a simple recipe: melting moments. Melting Moments are a signature Susan cookie; my mom was known for these. Pillowy soft two-bite green or red wonders that were made year after year, including her last Christmas. It’s not a typical sugar cookie, which is why it’s Susan’s Sugar Cookie. It is without a doubt my most popular holiday scent this season. Hey! I hope you’re all enjoying the Peach Sampler activity! Some of the rating cards have come back and this means I can start tweaking things to make the perfect peach ! A few notes if you have not already sent your cards: 1. When I scent test, I look for is the cold throw similar, if not identical, to the hot throw? My goal is to make a candle that smells the same at home as it does in the store. That’s probably my number one thing I look for when testing candles. ... 2. Does it smell artificial? Right out of the bottle, A LOT of oils smell really artificial but soften and become their true scents in wax. This is the case with the Anise scent I have. I cannot stand it out of the bottle but in wax, it becomes crushed fennel seeds and if I add a little vanilla to it, it becomes an anisette cookie. But if the scent smells fake in the wax, I’m not about that. 3. If you’re stuck between two similar scents, burn them together. You may find that by doing that, you’ve nailed the scent you want. This is how I create some of my blends, specially Mint Mojito. You can find various mint mojito oils on the market but I wanted more mint in mine. So through trial and error, I added more of a spearmint oil to a mojito oil base and ended up with my Mint Mojito. There’s a real possibility that the qualities of fresh peach could help elevate the qualities of gingered peach making it the ultimate peach. 4. Don’t have an hour to spare to let the candle light naturally? Stick the open candle on a baking sheet and out into a 300 degree oven for 3ish min. () It’s an easy way to create an even melt pool and smell the scent. Of course, it’s not very candle-y but it is effective. Beware: doing it this way will probably cause the wick to dislodge. But if you’re into wax melts, then there you go. 5. Please put return address labels on the rating card envelopes so I can easily see who I need to send their free candle coupon too. Yes, every person who sends the rating card back to me gets a free 8oz candle in a scent of their choosing; this is a way to thank you for participating! If you have questions, drop them below!

Priorities are important. Dreams are important too. And so is fish fry with family. ______________ My mom and I made this list during our first big production weekend in May 2016. (We made over 700 candles that Saturday! ) Overwhelmed with the candles, the smells, the boxes, and my newborn baby...it was quite a project. I framed this list when my mom got sick. It is a nice reminder that you can dream all you want but you have to put in the work if you want it to go somewhere, even breaking down cardboard boxes.

Hello! Quick update on candles: I originally going for a Thursday the 26th ship date/delivery date. However, I fell ill a few days ago and I am, just this evening, starting to feel like myself again. So instead of tomorrow, deliveries and shipping with happen on Saturday the 28th. Note: I do have safety precautions in place while making and packaging candles. I am not taking COVID-19 lightly at all.

Good morning and happy social distancing! __________ I returned from my mom’s memorial in California last weekend to find that my entire routine was going to be upended and I’d have to wear hats I’ve never worn before. Losing my job as a bartender, Aurora’s school being closed and all of my usual parenting practices suddenly being taboo...it’s a lot to process. Couple that with my husband suddenly working from home in our small house and me having to educate my special n...eeds daughter? I am sure this will get easier but right now, I’m a bit of an emotional mess. __________ The one thing in my routine that has remained constant is my candle station in the basement.
