From the mouth of babes! Just in the event you need to hear this today. Walking around uncomfortably hungry or waiting to eat until the point of shakiness, irritability or falling over is not normal. Nor is it effective in reducing weight. What it does do is lead to eating out of control, typically eating larger portions, eating in a rush, and not even tasting your food. ... Is this you? Do you wait too long to eat thinking it will help you reach your goals? Are you interested in learning a different way to approach food and meal time? The practice of intuitive eating is something to consider. Give me a call, we can chat! This may not be popular opinion but I have been feeling this for a while. #dietculture is so pervasive that it often feels like there is not a time or place that you can escape it. I’m like everyone else. I like to unwind and be social. It is a major downer when in said social setting someone starts telling me about the latest diet they are on. ... It usually starts with ‘I’m doing ...’ This topic is VERY common. It’s part of our culture. It’s part of #dietculture Well, just because it’s the norm doesn’t mean it’s good for us. Here is a challenge next time you are in a social setting try to talk about anything except diets and dieting. I wonder what you will discover about others? If I saw my GYN in a social setting I would not expect that she would want to talk about vaginas. I’m a Dietitian, a damn good one, but I don’t want to talk about diets or dieting outside of work. #thatisall See more

This! One of the most powerful reads for me as a professional. This is my second time reading. The first try I checked it out from the library but quickly found that I wanted to fold pages, underline and highlight like a crazy person. I’m pretty sure the public library system would not appreciate that. It’s amazing to see the path of how we have arrived to where we are today in the pursuit of health. The history of it, I’m gonna bet, is not what you think. ... I’ve worked in this field for 20 years and find content on every page I am surprised I didn’t know. When we know better we can do better. This is why my focus with clients is now #intuitiveeating Dieting causes unnecessary suffering. You don’t have to earn the right to eat. You deserve to, are allowed to and should eat when you are hungry. You may not always understand why you are hungry and that’s ok. You don’t have to. If you have felt as though you needed to do an activity or wait until a certain time of day to eat I would like to show you a different way. ... Enter Intuitive Eating. One of the principles of IE is to #honoryourhunger and it can be a powerful way for you to care for yourself. Book a free discovery call to learn more. The link is in the bio! Sessions are covered by insurance and can be virtual or in person. #IntuitiveEating #HAES #AntiDiet #Dietitian #Nutritionist #RegisteredDietitian #Buffalo #Williamsville #NewYork #VirtualNutrition #InsuranceAccepted See more

Ever have a day where you feel energized all day? Isn’t it the best feeling? Like you can tackle anything and focus on what you need to focus on! Want more of those days? Don’t we all! Is poor meal timing something that is contributing to your low energy? Sure can be!... When I work with clients using the principles of intuitive eating this is something we address. If meal timing is not done properly for your life and needs it can leave you with lack of energy and focus. Learning to eat in response to and listen to hunger cues are some of the beginning steps. First recognize that you are hungry then respond in a timely fashion. Sounds simple right? Well, it can be challenging if you are out of touch with the signals of hunger your body is sending. Or if you’ve ignored them Or if try to fake them out (drink water to mask hunger I’m at you. ) I’m offering a free intuitive eating guide for booking a free discovery call with me. No obligation to book any further sessions. Head on over to our site (link in bio) and book your discovery call. #ipreview via @preview.app See more

Hey there! Seems like a perfect time to reintroduce myself. I finally got around to updating my head shots with help from my talented friend at With Imagination Photography. Something that had been on my to do list for a while. Thanks Ann! I'm Allyson and I started Custom Dietetics 15 years ago because I wanted to have more control over my time and career. In that time I have learned new things, grown and changed as a person and practitioner bringing me to the type of D...ietetics I focus on today which is Intuitive Eating. 'IE' is complex and has many layers - too many to get into here. This topic is timely because there is a certain celebrity who has recently decided to give her thoughts on IE. **insert eye roll** Her comments and opinions are not only misguided but harmful. As a core theme IE works to help people have a healthy relationship with food and recognizes/supports that health happens at every size and a persons worth or right to be treated with dignity and respect should not depend on the size of the body. Ok, I said it was too much to get into and then I got into it. I can't help it - it's just so powerful! If IE seems interesting to you or you just want to know more - read a book, book a discovery call, search google. See what you see. https://www.customdietetics.com/services/

The daily to do list is always a long one! I never have clients tell me they have an over abundance of time. Usually people are short on time if anything. We all do so much to care for others but remembering to take time to care of yourself is also important. Self care can be things that are super fancy but it doesn’t have to be! Self-care can 100% be things that are simple and free or low cost. How do you care for yourself? Some of the common ideas that come up in co...nversation with clients include some of the following: getting enough sleep eating regular meals and snacks Setting boundaries with work related phone calls and emails so that you have downtime taking a lunch break instead of working through lunch doing activities that are important and valuable to you saying no to things if it means it helps you not be overscheduled See more
