Constableville Volunteer Firefighters were called to a chicken coop on fire. While on scene they were called for a medical call with the ambulance. This is always busy time of year for first responders. We are fortunate to have a dedicated group of volunteers!

**CANCELLED** At this time we find it more important to cancel this event due to the recent spike and outbreak of COVID19. We were all looking forward to having something for the children but we feel we need to be responsible and do our best to not spread this virus. Please don’t be angry with us...as soon as we can safely have something fun for the children and community we certainly will. The Trunk or Treat event is cancelled. There will not be a Halloween party inside the ...firehall. Follow this post just in case the event has to be cancelled for any reason!

A note from our Fire Chief: As we wrap up National Fire Prevention Week I’d like to mention one more very important part! Our Volunteers!... Without volunteer responders willing to drop what ever they are doing at the sound of the tones and fire whistle we wouldn’t have the department that we have. They receive the same level of training as a career firefighter by NYS Fire Instructors. We have Basic Exterior Firefighters, Level 1 Interior Firefighters and some even took the Firefighter 2 course. That’s only the beginning of the courses and training some of our members have. We also have 100% Volunteer EMT’s that respond with the firefighters to all of the fire calls not only for the safety of the homeowners but the safety of the responders fighting those fires. We don’t have an official ladies league or auxiliary but we do have some wonderful wives and families of the responders that make sure that when the responders are on a fire scene they have food and fluids to keep them hydrated and their energy level up. Volunteers are not paid - not because they are worthless, but because they are priceless! Constableville Fire Company Volunteers do this because they have the heart and care about the community of which they live. Thank you to all of the great volunteers that make Constableville Fire Company Stronger Together! Thank you to the community that financially supports us so we are able to keep our trucks and gear up for the safety of the volunteers. I’m proud to be the Fire Chief of such a committed group made up 100% of Volunteers. Chief Daryl Ortlieb

Today let’s review some Fire Safety for Caregivers of Older Adults. Escape plans are for everyone no matter your age. Remember smoke detectors need to be tested monthly and batteries changed regardless twice a year. Without those batteries in and verifying they work, they don’t do you any good. ... A good reminder is to check the dates on your carbon monoxide alarms while your checking and changing the batteries. We get calls for them going off in a home and most times it’s due to an outdated detector that’s beeping for it’s expiration. The National Fire Protection Association has announced the theme of Fire Prevention Week October 4-10, 2020.

Today we want to Thank all of the Veterans in our Department, our Families and our Community and beyond! Thank you all for your service to our Country. Veterans Day (originally known as Armistice Day) is a federal holiday in the United States observed annually on November 11, for honoring military veterans, that is, persons who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces. In 1918, on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, an armistice, or temporary cessation of hostilities..., was declared between the Allied nations and Germany in World War I, then known as the Great War. Veterans Day is not to be confused with Memorial Daya common misunderstanding, according to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Memorial Day (the fourth Monday in May) honors American service members who died in service to their country or as a result of injuries incurred during battle, while Veterans Day pays tribute to all American veteransliving or deadbut especially gives thanks to living veterans who served their country honorably during war or peacetime.

Just before 7am this morning Constableville Fire was dispatched for an unknown fire. Upon arrival it was discovered that tires had caught on fire from a nearby fire pit on the other side of a tree that was believed to be out prior to leaving it. Thankfully the 9 volunteer firefighters that responded were able to quickly extinguish the fire prior to it spreading further and getting out of control. We’d like to take a moment to remind everyone to be sure to put water on any campfire before leaving it unattended. With the extreme dry weather, even with the rain in the forecast, the ground can catch fire and it can spread rapidly. Please use extra caution with any campfire.
