New Modern Pearl drop soon for the holiday season. But first, some back story. I like to start with my faves, the Elizabethans. They revered the pearl more than diamonds. It was the most precious of gems. For royals, like Elizabeth I of England, the more the merrier, sewn into her clothes and studding her hair. Pearls could not be cultured until the 20th century, which made them far more rare and valuable, starting with the ancient civilizations of Egypt, and Rome. ... Pearls are more culturally significant than diamonds, and have a longer history as an object representing the wealth of a ruler or nation. Depictions of pearls in paintings, such this one dating back to 1599, are major fashion statements.
