Dance Theatre of Harlem mourns the passing of the legendary Cicely Tyson. Her trailblazing excellence in a career that spanned film, television, and stage will remain unmatched. Ms. Tyson has been a part of the DTH family since its inception. As a close friend of DTH co-founder Arthur Mitchell, she served on the first Board of Directors of DTH and throughout was a champion for his vision. With heavy hearts we celebrate the power of her brilliance and express gratitude for her... generosity and the example she leaves us with. Over the next several days, we will be sharing photos, videos, and personal stories about Ms. Tyson. We hope that you will join us in celebrating the extraordinary impact she has made on the world. #CicelyTyson #ArthurMitchell #DanceTheatreOfHarlem Photo Credit: Cicely Tyson at DTH’s 50th Anniversary season 2019 photographed by Joseph Rodman Cicely Tyson with Arthur Mitchell, Photo from DTH Archives

Company Artist Daphne Lee appeared in Rise Up, a beautiful project by Darkness Rising: A Mental Health Awareness Nonprofit with the purpose of lifting up the stories of Black women and girls who were killed by police. We encourage you to watch the full video for a powerful message of hope and encouragement at the end by guest speaker Dr.Keisha Thompson! The #SayHerName campaign brings awareness to the often invisible names and stories of Black women and girls who have been ...victimized by racist police violence, and provides support to their families. To lift up their stories, and illuminate police violence against Black women, they encourage individuals to know who they are, how they lived, and why they suffered at the hands of police. Thank you Darkness Rising! #Riseup
