The renovation and expansion of the Scarsdale Public Library accommodates the shifting needs of the Scarsdale community and improves the library experience, optimizing utilization of the full facility. While the flexible spaces, refreshed and re-envisioned interiors, and improved technological infrastructure are the highlights of the new library, the space also provides an expanded connection to the community it serves. Featuring an entrance plaza, a new cafe, and lobby that opens up to the library’s main collection area, daylight and views establish a strong connection from entry to exit. New programming opportunities, such as after-hours scheduling for the Technology Center and increased access of the expanded children’s area, solidify the Library as a communal hub.

As architects, we are also urban designers. Our urban design work includes master plans for large urban sites. We work with institutional, municipal, and private clients. The existing city scale, neighborhood context and materials, and the cultural characteristics of the site are each important elements which we consider when planning. Site plans are developed in response to the individual characteristics of the project area, such as density, use, topography, orientation, and access to transportation. Our work includes community outreach and often includes rezoning, resulting in development over a series of phases.

This LEED Platinum facility vertically organizes Battery Park City Parks Conservancy’s extensive maintenance activities in the first four floors of a high-rise residential building. The facility is visually integrated into the larger development through a high-performance, terra-cotta and aluminum curtain wall. The double-wall exterior envelope insulates the space in the summer, captures solar energy for heat in the winter, and controls air circulation patterns while also functioning as a naturally-ventilated circulation spine. We are proud to announce that our very own Andrew Harris has been selected as a 2020 Forefront Fellow! Each year, Urban Design Forum selects a diverse group of emerging leaders in urban design, development, policy, and advocacy to investigate how design can address a social or political challenge facing New York City. This year's fellowship, dubbed COOPERATIVE WORKS, will explore how to support minority-owned businesses and workers of color, expand worker cooperatives, and de...mocratize economic resources to build a more inclusive economy. Congratulations to Andrew and the rest of the 2020 Class of Forefront Fellows! Read more: https://urbandesignforum.org//2020-class-of-forefront-fel/

Our first year participating in the AIA New York Day of Service was a great success thanks to a tremendous group effort by the Dattner and Services for the UnderServed - S:US team. We were able to rebuild raised garden beds, install new fencing, update patios and planting areas, and add our own bench/planter modules. We're proud and grateful that we were able to make such positive impacts for the Marcy Hart Farm and the many people who depend on and use this space! #AIANYDayofService #urbanfarming Center for Architecture (AIANY)

Dattner Architects is proud to be participating in this year’s AIA New York Day of Service on August 15. We are partnering with Services for the UnderServed - S:US, a leading NYC nonprofit that provides support for populations in need through both housing and counseling services. Our goal is to help S:US make a series of improvements to their urban garden at the Marcy Hart residences in Brooklyn, NY. Scope will include redesigning existing fencing and underutilized garden bed...s, regrading primary seating areas, and adding to the overall vibrancy of the existing space. S:US’ Urban Farms program provides therapeutic horticulture, nutritional programming, and employment opportunities to the individuals they serve. Help us transform the Marcy Hart garden by donating to our GoFundMe campaign. Your donation will go directly towards purchasing the building materials that will make this garden improvement project possible. Thank you for all your support! Note: On the Day of Service, PPEs will be provided and social distancing rules will apply to ensure the health and safety of all volunteers and residents. Center for Architecture (AIANY)
