David Raleigh's Gospel Sunday Brunch 29.01.2021

#tbt a long, long time Ago in a galaxy far away.. Don’t know what I miss more, having all that hair or being that damn skinny! I do remember how awesome it it felt and how fortunate I was to have the opportunity to perform my original songs on national television. #grateful

When the lights begin to fade, and the band has left the stage And the songs have all been sung I’m reminded of the years and it brings me close to tears Thinking just how far we’ve come... All I can say is thank you, All I can say I couldn’t sing without you, thank you for the chance to share my life Each song I sing is for you, and every single night you play a part So thank you from the bottom of my heart Like a candle in the dark, you illuminate my heart And the light comes shining through And I appreciate the love that I’m feeling so much of The applause belongs to you I raise my glass to thank you, again I say I couldn’t sing without you, thank you for the chance to share my life Each song I sing is for you, and every single night you play a part So thank you from the bottom of my heart - D Raleigh/NL Jones c.2014 https://soundcloud.com/davidraleigh/thank-you

As a child I was super patriotic. I don’t know if it was because I loved all the songs associated with our country, and their themes of freedom, solidarity and duty, or if it was just that red was my favorite color!:-) Whatever it was it was full on. I would go to the library and read about the Statue of Liberty and the Liberty Bell. All through HS my room was a shrine to the American flag. Two of my walls were bright white with the 13 red stripes (that had been perfectly tap...ed and painted by my mother and me), and one wall was navy blue with 50 white spray painted stars that I had cut stencils for - that came out amazingly well, if I say so myself. The fourth wall had red white and blue beads hanging from a long curtain rod, and that was my pride and joy. I would save my money to purchase these beads and was sad that I never got them as full and dense as I envisioned them to be. The ceiling was covered with an actual American flag that I had thumbtacked the corners of to fit the ceiling. I played trumpet in school and for a short time daydreamed of enlisting and joining the Army band after graduation. Though I never wanted to experience it, I was intrigued by the thought of war, battle, wearing a uniform;-) and the pomp and circumstance of it all. At the same time I was enthralled by stories of Harriet Tubman, Frederick Douglass and Martin Luther King, Jr. and the fight against slavery, oppression and for freedom. I never did join the army band, nor did I ever go off to war, but my feelings for and about my country have never wavered, though they have surely been tested through the every changing political climate and my own personal experiences. Today I wish to salute and remember the honorable men and women who have answered the call, willingly and unwillingly and gone to battle to fight for our freedoms. Be it in on a battlefield far away, or on the streets and in communities here at home. Whether the fight was right or wrong they put their lives in harm’s way, and gave of themselves so that we can live freely. I wish to honor all the courageous American’s who have fought against oppression, slavery, injustice, hunger, racism, sexism, corruption. I stand in solidarity with all who fought and continue to fight for freedom. And I add to this list today, the army of people on the front lines across the land who are leading the fight against this pandemic. Thank you. May we all strive to live with liberty and justice for all. Happy Memorial Day!

So shall it be written. So shall it be done. During this time of isolation and immense uncertainty, no matter how faithful or faithless we find ourselves, I’d like to offer this prayer, to lift up the lives of loved ones lost, to ease the pain of those who are sick and suffering and to give encouragement to those in the midst of recovering. ... Together as we gather to commemorate and celebrate our individual traditions this Holy Week, may we each strengthen our resolve to do justly, love mercy and walk humbly every day, with gratitude for the joys of our hard earned freedom and our shared hopes for a brighter tomorrow for everyone. A Happy Passover and a Joyous Easter to us all.

Due to the safety measures requested and put in place by our public health officials, and in the best interest of ourselves and for the greater good of our larger community, the concert scheduled for Sunday, March 22 has been postponed. A new date will be announced as soon as we’re through this and we will get through this! Please keep artists, musicians and the venues, clubs and small businesses who provide us with places to share our talents in your thoughts during this difficult time. Thank you for your continued support of live music.
