Honoring an incredibly courageous and inspiring man, Reverend Doctor Martin Luther King, Jr., inspires me to keep going There comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe, nor politic, nor popular, but he must take it because conscience tells him it is right. MLK Those who have been silenced in life and in death, inspire me to keep going my young son who has been silenced, inspires me to keep going. The women in my community, who are being silence...d, inspire me to keep going The loss of quality of life, health, freedom, rights and dignity that I’ve experienced and endure at the hands of an oppressive government in a community I call home, inspires me to keep going Are you inspired to keep going or do you stand by, silent, perpetuating evil and the silencing of women, children, minorities Be inspired today and everyday to get involved in organizations and movements that support Martin Luther King Juniors quest for equality and non discrimination that lies at the heart of the American human dream

Today marks a solemn reminder of the dangers of Lake Ontario and the brutal weather that beats on its shores. On December 4th, 1942, the crew that was statione...d here at USCG Station Oswego took a 30-foot picket boat out to the Oswego Lighthouse to conduct a crew swapout with those currently manning the light. With the winds at around 35 knots, and the seas crashing over the break wall, the picket boat was swept along the corner of the light house causing the boat to begin flooding and the engine to fail. It helpless drifted across the entrance to the harbor, getting tossed around in the gale, and was smashed upon the eastern breakwall heaving the crew into the frigid waters. Two of the men were able to swim to the breakwall to relative safety to be rescued sometime later. The other 6 Coast Guardsmen in the boat unfortunately did not survive. The names of those men who lost their lives to the violent and cold waters of Lake Ontario are as follows: Luitenant Junior Grade Altson J. Wilson Boatswain's Mate second class Eugene J. Sisson Seaman First Class Leslie J. Holdsworth Seaman Second Class Irving Ginsburg Machinist's Mate Second Class Ralph J. Sprau Boatswain's Mate First Class Karl H. Jackson The crew here at USCG Station Oswego are reminded of these brave men's sacrafice by the original helm of the picket boat lost that day that is mounted on the wall in the main passageway of the building.

The whale is coming up to scoop up a mouthful of herring (the small fish seen at the surface around the kayak). The kayaker is a local Sitka Dentist. He apparen...tly didn’t sustain any injuries from the terrifying experience. The whale was just around the corner from the ferry terminal, and all the kayaker could think at that moment in time was: Paddle Manreally fast! The whale’s mouth is fully open with the bottom half under the boat. If the whale had closed his mouth before he furiously paddled away - He might have been LUNCH!!! Note that he is in the whale’s MOUTH! 3 notes

Pedaled 44 miles in purple this weekend in honor and support of women like me * * * 44 miles is hardly a challenge when you consider the challenges I have and continue to face as a survivor in a community that ranks one of the highest in the nation for domestic abuse- Oswego County. ... Personally, I’d rather ride my bike 44 miles a day then deal with the injustices and corruption of our local police, family court and district attorneys office. From years of complaints not documented, to orders of protection violated and not enforced, to children denied services and placed in abusive households to perjury and bribery permissible in court. Years of these societal atrocities will steal your joy, rob you and your children of precious time together that you can never get back. The abuse & the atrocities of the system, will change you. As a survivor it is my duty to speak up. For my sons, myself and those who are experiencing similar misfortunes after seeking a life of total freedom and health-it is my responsibility to shine light into this darkness in my own community- Oswego, NY. I wear purple because my life matters. I wear purple because my children’s lives matter. I wear purple because the victim before me who no longer has a voice-her life mattered too. I wear purple because domestic violence and abuse is wildly misunderstood and mishandled in a community where I’m raising my third child, building a business and serving my community and visitors to it. I wear purple because I add value even when the system undermines and devalues me and the abuse Ive endured. I wear purple so other survivors know they are not alone. Until there is transparency and accountability, corruption and abuse will never end- the system designed to protect victims and survivors will continue to perpetuate the cycles for generations to come as they are today. #october2020 #domesticviolenceawareness #speakUp #shineyourlight #bethechange #betheEnd
