We managed to get our infection rate way down with sensible distancing, mask wearing and minimizing exposure. Now people on Long Island and NYC are acting as if... the virus does not exist. Our numbers are climbing again. It will be slow initially and then exponential just like Florida and Texas. For everyone who cares about school and college opening, if this trend continues neither will happen. Please be responsible; social distance, wear masks and fore-go the parties, the large group assemblies and, even outdoor dining in restaurants where the risk remains high of passing virus along. The four people who tested positive were among 18 people who attended the backyard party and barbecue, for a total of 22% infected, officials said. Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone called the new cases a "wake-up call," and vowed to step up enforcement of coronavirus mitigation directives. It’s an example of why it is critically important that we remain vigilant, said Bellone, adding that the party hosts followed capacity limits and were not issued citations.
