DOUBLE repost This is a repost of a patient I first saw over Skype during quarantine. Christina had been suffering with acne since 2013. She is a makeup artist (a very talented one!) and her self esteem was affected, as she felt like her clients questioned her skill level. After getting a detailed report of her medical history, I decided to put her on spironolactone and Epiduo Forte. Spironolactone is a non-FDA approved treatment for women with hormonal acne. It is an andro...gen blocker, which is why it works so well for hormonal breakouts. Although it is used off-label in dermatology, it has been used to treat acne for years. After drawing the patient’s blood, we spin it in a centrifuge and extract the growth factors. We then inject them into the patient’s scalp. I use a type of needle called a mesoram, which has 5 needles in 1 to reduce the number of sticks. I also have my patients use Pronox (like laughing gas) to make the procedure more comfortable. Now we just wait for the hair to grow!
