Interesting study (albeit a small sample size - they only evaluated ten individuals with tattoos) demonstrating reduced ability to sweat in areas of tattooing... . The theory is that during the tattoo placement process the repetitive injury caused by the needle results in scarring and damage to and/or impaired function of the sweat glands . I was working on 50th and Broadway, 40th floor, with a clear view straight downtown on a cloudless sunny day.... . I remember the smoke. I remember watching the television in the back of the office with the rest of my colleagues as the second plane came into view. . I remember the crying, the shock, the pairing off / buddy system as we all identified someone who lived nearby and we all walked home. . I remember the sounds of the radios on the street, the constant dissemination of information - changing by the minute, by the person we encountered with the latest update. . I remember trying to call anyone and everyone, and the lines were all busy. I remember thinking what will come next... . I will always remember. I will never forget. . This image sort of sums up summer 2020... Birthdays abound at the Brauer house during Summertime ... June, July, August and ending with @drjeremybrauer Labor Day weekend! Those who know *us well know that *we take Brauer Birthday Bashes very seriously...the more the merrier...that goes for people... food... and celebration. This year was different. No balloon guy, no bubble bus, no petting zoo... no massive tent in the front yard to protect us from the sun (requirement of the dermatologist in the fam). No party favors, no cupcake icing all over the yard... and the kitchen floor... and the furniture. BUT... we did get to see our friends decorate their cars and make beautiful signs. We got to hear laughter and honking and music as they paraded by our lawn. Our freezer was still constantly full of @carvelmamaroneck ice cream cake (a Birthday must) and our hearts were even fuller. Summer of 2020- we approached you with uncertainty and trepidation but are leaving you with incredible memories of the most simple yet most enjoyable and important things in life: Family, community, good neighbors and lots of sunshine. Thank you. And now... on to the first day of school. A whole new world of uncertainty and trepidation. But we will prevail. We always do. Infinite thank you’s to our teachers and school administrators. YOU are the new essential worker. We are here to support you and work with you to make this year the best year yet. Beautiful post from my beautiful wife on this beautiful holiday weekend - I hope everyone had a happy healthy safe 4th!!! . #Repost @dranatebrauer with @get_repost #fireworks ... They evoke different feelings in different people. Excitement... fear... happiness... anxiety. The first big fireworks display I ever saw was 4th of July in Miami Florida circa 1983. It was our first week in the America. I was 5. We spent a few days with my dad’s second cousin in Miami before making our way to Memphis, TN where we would settle our lives (for a couple of years anyway). I heard them start to go off and I PANICKED!! I ran back to the car and hid in the backseat until they were over. I remember thinking wow... these Americans are crazy with their fireworks. Over the years they grew on me... a dazzling display of spirit, wonder and excitement. In 2015 we bought a home of our own in an incredible little Westchester neighborhood on the Sound where 4th of July is an iconic display of Americana. Backyard BBQs with sparklers and glowsticks. Kids running around wearing red white and blue catching fireflies and slurping popsicles. Truly everything I had ever dreamed America would be. My mom was with us for our first 4th here 2 weeks after we moved in. She worked so so hard to move us to this country. I cannot even imagine what she was thinking at this moment... watching her daughter stand on her own front porch... as a first time homeowner... living the American dream... staring at that beautiful display of American spirit light up the sky. This time not running. Just staring in awe, full of gratitude for everything this country has given me. This year I missed my fireworks... no big parties or BBQs...no glowsticks or sparklers...but there in my little backyard watching my kids play ... painting sea shells and roasting marshmallows...I felt more gratitude than ever before. Thank you America. You ain’t perfect. But I am grateful that I have you.
