My mentors taught me a long time ago that the most important word I can say as a plastic surgeon is No. We need to say no to the person who is a poor candidate for the procedure they are asking for, when we know their results will be less than ideal. We need to say no to the person who is seeking surgery for all the wrong reasons. We need to say no to the person who has medical problems that may place them at increased risk. We need to say no to those who have unrealistic ...expectations. We need to say no when someone is asking us to perform a procedure that we are under qualified to do. We need to say no to those who are not willing to dedicate the time and effort that is necessary for their recovery. . Being a good plastic surgeon is so much more than having skilled hands and an artistic eye. It means having sound judgment and being able to anticipate bad outcomes before you even do the surgery.
