Every year this never seeces to amaze me how one cow (meaning adult female) will stay with the newborn calves to babysit or protect them from predators while the rest of the herd (other moms included) are in the barn eating and drinking, not always the same adult but it does seem to be the mom's who are more maturnal and caring who stay with the little ones.
