Feature Cow Friday Meet Cheri! Dutch Hollow News Cheri-ET is one of Papa Paul's favorite cows in the herd. He likes to brag about her to anyone he can! She's got the goods to back up his praise though- she's max score EX 91% with a rockin' udder.... Cheri is a worker! She made over 25,000 pounds of milk as a 2 year old last year. Now she's 183 days into her next lactation and is still cruising around 100 pounds of milk a day! Her last test date she had 123 pounds of milk, at 5.0% butter fat and 4.2% protein. Performance like that is in the genes! Cheri is a third generation "ET" - the result of an embryo transfer. When we think a cow is really special and has traits we want to multiply in our herd we put them on an IVF program. Her embryos will be carried by surrogate cows so more of those genes will be carried into the next generation of our herd.

Feature Cow Friday Dutch Hollow is a 100% Jersey herd and, generally, Jerseys are all brown in color. But not always! Did you know that Jerseys can have spots? Meet Charlotte! Dutch Hollow Nirto Charlotte turned 5 years old a few days ago and is one of our most uniquely colored cows. She's got spots, and a lot of them, but she is also our only pink-nosed cow!... Charlotte got it from her momma! Cow number 5331 is Dutch Hollow Garcia Cutie (aka Charlotte's mom) and their spots look very similar, minus the pink nose. Charlotte has a daughter and a granddaughter herself, but they didn't inherit the unique family look. Fingers crossed her next calf gets the pink nose too!

What a busy harvest season it has been! A week ago we were covering the corn silage pile and today we were covering 4th cutting haylage. Grateful to have a lot of good quality feed but even more grateful for the team that made it happen! #teamworkmakesthedreamwork #cowchow #DutchHollowFarm #nyag #nyagriculture #upstateNY #dairyfarm #dairygood #undeniablydairy

Feature Cow Friday Meet Ice Cream! A farm favorite, Dutch Hollow Governor Ice Cream just turned 13 years old at the beginning of the month. She's the second oldest cow living on our farm today! Ice Cream is known for being extra friendly because of her years exhibiting at the fairs. If anyone is in her pen taking care of another cow, Ice Cream is right there checking out what's going on and deciding whether or not you have an extra hand available for some head scratches!... Ice Cream is as hard working as she is friendly - she's made over 230,000 pounds of milk in her lifetime. That's 460,000 8oz glasses of milk And she looks good while doing it too. Ice Cream is scored excellent, 94 points!
