Dr. Martin and Morgan had a great visit yesterday at Healing H'Arts Equestrian Center with Apollo for his six month dental examination and float. Apollo has some abnormalities with his dentition which required that he have three teeth extracted. Now, he requires very regular dental care to make sure he can properly grind his feed, maintain a healthy weight, and comfortably keep performing his important job as a therapy horse!

In some lighter news, we are happy to announce that Dr. Martin recently received her diploma from the University of Tennessee officially certifying her as an Equine Rehabilitation Practitioner. She is excited to incorporate the specific training and skills acquired in this course to continue to broaden the complete care offered by Early Winter Equine. With continued safety and health concerns related to COVID-19, we are continuing to make changes to how we schedule and perform appointments. Please look for an email from our office with more specific details in regards to these changes. Here are some of the takeaways Scheduling through April 30th: ... * We are scheduling most appointments on a case-by-case basis.* We are NOT scheduling services that require us to be in close contact with another individual (either with another member of our staff or a horse handler/owner) for long periods of time (more than 15 minutes). This includes routine dentistry appointments. We are also NOT scheduling services that require more than one staff member to be present. This would include most involved lameness examinations, pre-purchase examinations, elective surgeries, and joint injections. Please call or email the office with any appointment you would like to schedule. If we cannot perform the appointment safely at this time, we will schedule it as soon as possible, once we get back to work on a normal basis. We will continue to provide emergency coverage and care 24/7. Ideal Environment for Appointments: EWE staff members will be wearing masks during all appointments. We ask that any horse handler/owner present at the appointment also be wearing some sort of face covering. We ask that only ONE person be present at each appointment. If we are seeing multiple horses at one boarding facility, this still means only ONE person be present to handle all the horses for that appointment. This limits our exposure to multiple people (both for your health and for our own health). If there are other personnel or boarders at your facility at the time of your appointment, we ask that we examine your horse in a space where we will not be in contact with these other people or at a specific time where there will be limited people at the barn (not at feeding or turnout time). If you are sick, or have any cold or flu symptoms (runny nose, coughing, fever) or have any possible exposure to someone with COVID-19, through your household or work, we ask that you are not present at the appointment and either reschedule or have another horse handler with no known exposure. We are also happy to consult as well as perform Telemedicine type appointments as much as possible if appropriate. We look forward to returning to normal scheduling as soon as possible. Stay safe and well!

We have had lots of questions today and wanted to make sure we are keeping all of our clients up to date on how Early Winter Equine is continuing to provide care for all of our patients during this challenging and stressful time. As of now, and for as long as we can, we are continuing routine appointments as well as full emergency care. Our ability to do this will be contingent both upon the health of our veterinarians and staff as well as government mandates. In order to ke...ep everyone healthy and be able to continue to provide uninterrupted services, we are asking that there only be limited people present at appointments. People present should be limited to the owner or horse handler and owner. Other people should not be in the examination area. As much as possible, we will try to institute social distancing during the examination. If you are sick, please do not come to the barn. We ask that you find an alternate handler or cancel your appointment. Thank you for understanding. Our goal is for all of us (veterinarians, staff, clients, and patients)to remain healthy and safe! From all of us at Early Winter Equine we want to thank everyone who attended our client education event this past Saturday. We really love being able to put on these events and couldn’t do it without the generosity of our gracious sponsors Hannah from Boehringer Ingelheim and Alix from Midwest Veterinary Supply. The food once again was delicious and supplied by Crossroads Bar and Grill. Also, thank you Mike Troxler for capturing these great images! We really enjoy being able to share our love of equine veterinary medicine with our clients. We hope you enjoyed the day as much as we did. Please feel free to provide any feedback as well as topic ideas for future events.
