Talk about timing!!!!! Did you know that Rich Clements, who was the Director of Information Technology for the East Aurora School District, and his team, achieved their goal of one to one chrome books for students just a few months before COVID-19 hit? This incredible feat allowed our children to continue learning from home during the pandemic. Teachers, administrators, support staff and parents continue their work to keep students moving in the right direction!! This is ...something to celebrate, don't you think!? We plan to do just that. We're working out the details - so please stay tuned!!!! #weareinnovative #celebrate #eastaurora #oneEA #COVID #COVID19

East Aurora Educational Foundation, Inc. 20.08.2020

We wanted to take a moment and congratulate Rich Clements as this year’s recipient of the James Ford Commitment to Education Award!! Rich Clements just retired as the Director of Information Technology for the East Aurora School District. We'd say Rich had a busy year!!! The fact is - Rich has spent the past twenty years working behind the scenes, building a technological infrastructure that would help give each student access to appropriate technology. Talk about timing... - Rich achieved this goal in the fall of 2019, when each student in the district was provided a Chromebook for daily use. It was Rich’s innovation and expertise that gave every child the ability to transition and learn through virtual technology. During his two decades with the district, Rich worked on one to one chrome books, smart boards, interactive white boards, payroll systems and all the behind the scenes things needed to keep the district running well. Mark Mambretti, the Director of Curriculum, Instruction and Personnel for the East Aurora School District said this of Rich Clements: Rich deserves the James Ford award because Rich doesn’t believe he deserves the James Ford Award. Rich has always viewed himself as a support for the success of others. What Rich needs to know and what I hope this will cement to him is that our success was only possible because we were standing on his shoulders. The James Ford Commitment to Education Award was created in memory of one of the founding fathers of the Foundation, Dr. James Ford. The award is presented each year to the person, organization, or group who best exemplifies the following qualities: - Commitment to the betterment of education in East Aurora - Persistent dedication to the cause - Creative and original thinking - Involvement in community life Rich certainly fits the bill!! Congratulations to Rich Clements on this very special award and we sure hope you enjoy your retirement. We are planning a very special virtual celebration for Rich and we will share those details very soon!!! #EastAurora #education #publiceducation #technology #distancelearning

This year's theme of the celebration event is "One Million Ways to Innovate". Innovation in education can mean many things. The list could go on and on. What does it it mean to you? The East Aurora Educational Fou...ndation wants to make sure each teacher and student experiences innovation on a daily basis. "Educated in East Aurora today to better serve the community tomorrow" This was said to Kimberly McAtee a long time ago and it has stuck with her. She lives this quote. She loves to teach. She loves children. She cares about everyone. Her family is everything to her. She has a loving husband and two wonderful children. She also has two great brothers and a very proud mother and father. In the past, her father served on the board for East Aurora Educational Foundation... for approximately 10 years. You can imagine how excited he is that she is receiving this honor on September 26th. Outside of school, Kimberly is involved in the Aurora Players. She has run the summer program for 10 years. For the last 4 years she has directed the high school portion of the program. Currently she is involved with the play, Bright Star. It is the regional premier for this play and it begins the 3rd week of October and runs for 4 weekends. So not only can you see Kimberly McAtee on September 26th at the EAEF Celebration event, you can check out some of her work in October and November with Aurora Players. September 26th is going to be a special night. Kimberly Harris McAtee is this year's winner of the James Ford Commitment to Education Award. Mrs. McAtee is more than deserving of this honor. She started teaching grades 5th through 8th in Cleveland, Ohio. Fortunately, for us, she moved back to her home town of East Aurora, where she was a substitute English teacher at the high school for a year. From there she went to Parkdale Elementary and has now taught in East Aurora f...or 28 years. If you have children, chances are they had Mrs. McAtee for a teacher and if they didn't they know who she is and you probably do to. She is lively, outgoing, caring, fun, patient, smart, exciting, and the list goes on. She everything an elementary school teacher should be. The best part about Kimberly, is that when the school year is over she doesn't say good bye to her students and parents. It's more of a "so long". In a recent conversation with Kimberly, she said she feels privileged to have formed relationships with her students and parents. Some of her best friends now are the parents of students she taught. She has an amazing talent of remembering every student's name and their family members. The reason for this is because she cares about each and every student and their families. There is so much more about Kimberly that we want to share, so stay tuned for more posts about why she is this year's honoree. Make sure to get your tickets to our celebration event. They are limited and are selling fast. It's truly a great night of fun. https://www.give2schools.org/categories.asp

Research has proven that the arts are an important part of a student's education. It as been shown that drama activities improve reading comprehension and both verbal and non-verbal communication skills. Drama can also improve skills and academic performance in youth with learning disabilities. As such, music education can increase academic success, improve hand eye coordination, develop other fine motor skills and improve school attendance. Drama and music are very impor...tant in the East Aurora School District. This is the reason that grants have been approved by EAEF in the past for new instruments for the music department and new stage curtains for the multi-purpose room for the drama club. So while the pictures below may not seem that exciting, for the students who benefit from them, it's very exciting. #eaef #eaeducationalfoundation #eastauroraeducationalfoundation #educationforeverystudent #theartsareimportant #september262019 #celebrationevent See more

Who would like to know more about what the funds from EAEF does for our schools? Renovation of library classroom space for collaborative learning - 21st Century learning needs, require flexible space to work on inquiry-based projects. Students need to be able to work independently, in groups, and with the teacher. Below are just a few examples of flexible learning spaces that have been made possible with funds from East Aurora Educational Foundation. On the left is the ...Imagination Station Dry Erase Table. In the middle is the Mini Mobile Flip Tables. On the right is the Smith System Table. The Foundation can only approve these grants because of support from our community businesses and individuals. So, while we are so proud to be able to do these things, the thanks must go to those who support EAEF. Another grant approved by EAEF enabled the acquisition of 26 Chromebooks, a Chromebook cart, a recording camera and a microphone. An integral part of students' work these days is digital research. With these Chromebooks, students gained access to digital libraries around the world. They were able to create documents and multimedia presentations that were easily edited and shared. Knowing how to do this type of research has opened the doors to scholarships and provided a s...et of skills that all successful college students must learn. East Aurora Educational Foundation grant money goes to many incredible projects. Below are a couple pictures of students utilizing some of the funded technology for art and music classes. Advanced software for a state-of-the-art animation lab in the high school has enriched and nourished students imagination and creativity. In addition to this technology, grants were approved to purchase new pottery throwing wheels, which are used particularly in Sculpture, AP Art and Ceramics. The range of projects are wide and diverse. When you support EAEF you don't just support scholarships, labs, computers and other technology, you support grants that enhance the learning for students of all ages. If you have students who attended East Aurora Schools you may remember Project Owl. It was a day exploring an Outdoor Wildlife Laboratory. A fabulously fun day of learning. Kids talked about it for weeks. Students still remember what they learned even though many are heading off to college now. Here is ...just ONE of the amazing grants that was submitted by a Parkdale teacher. THIS is Project Owl 2.0. It is for kindergarten students. These eager students got to experience different and fun learning stations: We've Got to Move It Leave It To The Birds We Can Build It Nature/Weather Prints Pond Study Build a Nest The knowledge they gained through this project left them with a life long thirst to learn more about the Earth and Human Activity; the Earth's Systems and Environment; Engineering Design and Structures; Processes of Plants and Animals and so much more. #eaef #eastauroraeducationalfoundation #1millionwaystoinnovate #enhancingeducation #foreverychild #september262019 #eaeducationalfoundation Check out our website for more information about EAEF. http://www.eastauroraeducationalfoundation.org/ See more
