We have a historic state budget as far as education funding goes in NY! NY has not seen a budget like this in at least a decade! Here are highlights for public education: -Provides a $1.4 billion increase in Foundation Aid and a three-year Foundation Aid phase-in that will finally fulfill the State’s commitments under the Campaign for Fiscal Equity. -Provides a $105 million expansion of full-day prekindergarten, providing pre-K funding to 210 districts who don’t currently rec...eive state-funded full-day Pre-K. -Ensures that additional Federal Aid will supplement, and not supplant State funding. Thanks to everyone who wrote their representatives and attended rallies etc. YOUR ADVOCACY MADE A DIFFERENCE! A special thanks to our PTA Council Advocacy Committee who lead our advocacy efforts. Our legislators worked very hard this session to make a vast improvement in education funding. Let's make sure we do not forget to thank them for all their efforts: Shelley Mayer, Amy Paulin, Andrea Stewart-Cousins and Carl Heastie!
The Covid-19 pandemic has placed a huge burden on so many of us as we've faced loss in a multitude of ways and have had to manage new stressors and uncertainty. One of the hardest hit groups without a doubt has been parents. This webinar is intended to help address the challenges that parents are experiencing at this time. Registration is required for this event. https://us02web.zoom.us//register/WN_Hs-MrweASEezQcDxHxwPRg.
There are just a few hours left until the state budget deadline. From what we’re hearing from Albany right now, there is a possibility that we will finally see a three year phase-in of Foundation Aid, and an expansion of pre-K. If that plan becomes a reality, it would make this the best budget we've seen for public education in over a decade! We know that Governor Cuomo is still fighting against funding our public schools. We need to keep up the pressure so the legislature co...ntinues to hold the line and stand up to the Governor. We need to make sure that our legislative leaders continue to fight to raise $7 billion in revenues and fully fund Foundation Aid for our schools. So much is at stake for our schools and communities in these final hours of negotiations. So email and tweet the remainder of today to make sure we get the commitment we need! @AndreaSCousins @CarlHeastie @LizKrueger @NYGovCuomo [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] http://www.governor.ny.gov/con/NYCitizensCampaign/index.php
Join us on Thursday, March 11th at 7:00 PM for the next installment in our FREE Virtual Speaker Series. In 2008, Kathi Sullivan lost her 17-year-old daughter to underage drinking. Since that time, she has teamed up with the JVC Foundation to share her story and to advocate for change. This informative presentation will cover the risks associated with underage drinking, what parents should know about social host liability, and the importance of communication in helping to keep our teens safe!
