One of my favorite all time EEVB photos: Steve Zelko airborne digging a spike at the 4-man Pro Tour at Jones Beach 1990. The Corona Light 4-player Championships... were held at Jones Beach in July, 1989 featuring 4-player teams Phil Melese and Doug Partie comprised of National Team members and top California players such as Doug Partie, Steve Salmons, Dusty Dvorak, and Gene LeDuff. To attract local interest a NY Metropolitan local team was allowed to participate. Organizers felt that they might be competitive and would be out of the tournament early leaving only their fans who would stay for the playoffs and help fill bleacher seats for the TV cameras. What the organizers did not count on was the experience and heart of the local players. Captain Eric Pavels from Long Island (college ball at University of California Santa Barbara and the US National team) contacted NJ star Doug Emich, and NYC resident’s Phil Melese and Steve Zelko to form a very solid 4-player team. Emich had also played with the National team, Zelko had played 4 years at USC-Santa Barbara, and Melese was rated triple A in California during his college years. (You should have seen Phil play when he was young said former AVP star Pat Powers.) With Pavels setting, Emich blocking, Zelko playing back row defense, and Melese firing away from the strong side, the local team breezed through pool play and ended up in the finals against captain Doug Partie’s 4-man squad. The first two games of the 3 game finals were very close with the locals winning the first 15-12 and Partie’s team wining the second 15-10. The third game was close up to the half-way point with Partie ahead by an 8-6 score when Phil Melese went down with cramps. He tried to play on but without his great jumping ability the locals finally succumbed 15-9 in one of the best matches ever on Long Island. While not an EEVB promoted event, all of the locals have played in EEVB tournaments since the mid eighties. #EEVBCLASSIC photo

This photo is an #eevbclassic photo not just because it is a great shot taken by EEVB staff photographer Fred Obermiller. It is classic because it shows Justin Phipps, who has been playing in EEVB tournaments now what seems like a lifetime, is still getting up as high as he is in this photo. This photo was so impressive that EEVB used it as the cover shot of the 2015 summer magazine we put out each season. Good job Justin! The photo was taken at Easton's beach on Lake Weir just east of Ocala. This was an up and coming Florida site on a fresh water lake until storms washed away part of the beach. A small site, it was becoming very popular with FL players until the wash out.

This was always my favorite photo of Adam Roberts, Matt Heath, Nick Lucena and Phil Dalhausser. It was taken March 2004 at Siesta Key, FL. It was right before they started making noise on the AVP. Phil & Nick won their first AVP tournament in 2005. Adam and Matt made the main draw regularly. We were trying to get Native Eyewear to sponsor them. I suggested that they pose in front of the Native banner and then sent the photo and contact info on to Native. These 4 players were ...a solid part of EEVB's spring and fall series throughout Florida and SC that featured the strongest tournaments on the East Coast during the 2000-2010 period. EEVB is recreating the early start to the new volleyball season with our new Sunshine series every February throughout Florida. First event this year is February 6-7, 2021 in Siesta Key. Hope to see you there. #EEVBClassic photo

Let’s be real, 2020 was a bust. So rather than looking back at it, let’s look back at 2019 again & get some of that good mojo going. EEVB’s 2021 beach volleyball season kicks off with our February 2021 Florida Sunshine Series Check it out & register on AVPAmerica.com under East End Volleyball as organizer & change month to include February or 60 days. ... As soon as we get word we will open all of our LI League registrations. Hopefully we will get approval sometime in March. Wishing everyone of our EEVB family & friends a happy, healthy & safe New Year ~ it’s 2021 ~ Love to you all! Let’s play!

Here is an interesting article in Volleyball mag that is guaranteed to cause arguments. An article like this should at best pick the top 3, not the best place to play. Hope you enjoy it and post your comments here and on their page.
