Eastman@Washington Square Presents: Rosa Boemia, Brazilian choro Rosa Boemia is a trio comprised of Ken Luk, bandolim(a type of mandolin); Bernardo Marcondes Ro...drigues, guitar; and Darien Lamen, pandeiro. Ken is an ECMS faculty member and teacher of both the gamelan ensemble and mandolin. He studied guitar and music theory at Eastman with Nicholas Goluses. Bernardo is also an Eastman graduate who studied guitar with Nicholas Goluses, and member of Trio Gidorah along with Ken. Darien is a producer, musician, and ethnomusicologist with expertise in Brazilian Caribbean music holding a PhD from the University of Pennsylvania. Eastman@Washington Square is a free weekly concert series featuring artists from the Eastman School of Music and ECMS, usually at UURoc: First Universalist Church of Rochester, NY. Performances are held most Thursdays from late October through May at 12:15pm and will be streamed LIVE from the Eastman Campus to YouTube!

Eastman recitals were re-opened (with restrictions) to some Eastman community members last Friday! This Performer’s Certificate recital by senior tuba performance major Tessa Nojaim, a student of Don Harry, included music by women composers from Hildegard of Bingen to Cyndi Lauper! The lineup of musicians was also all women: including Giulia Rath, trumpet; Frances Inzenhofer, double bass; Nina Robinson, flute; Ela Kodzas, violin; Emma Antonides, viola; Yvonne Rogers, piano; Alana Clayton, horn; Megan Hendrix, trombone, and Katie Hillstrom, trumpet.
