Last year, during the beginning of the COVID 19 outbreak, Eastport Fire Department took to the streets of our Fire District to bring the Easter Bunny to our friends and neighbors. The outpouring of support and joy was equal to our annual Santa Run. On Saturday April 3rd at 9:30am we will continue this new tradition with our second annual Easter Bunny Run. ... As with our Santa Tracker, we will be giving real time Tracker info on our Eastport FD Facebook page. Due to the ongoing COVID stop the spread initiative, the Easter Bunny will only be able to wave again. We hope to see you all and bring a smile in these trying times.

Last evening at 4:40pm, at the beginning of the snow storm, Eastport FD responded to a report of a multi car motor vehicle accident on Old Country road between Tuttle ave and Union ave. The road was shut down for over an hour for the safety of the rescue personnel including Southampton town PD and Westhampton Ambulance crews until the operators involved could be tended to and the vehicles could be moved off the road. Many of our friends and neighbors travel this road and were diverted down union ave. or Tuttle ave. Eastport Fire Fighter John Cappabianca was featured on the cover of this mornings Newsday Paper placing road flares to direct traffic south on Tuttle ave. at the scene of the accident.

Good Monday morning everyone. I have received many inquiries about the EASTPORT FIRE DEPARTMENT'S "FAMOUS BUFFET BREAKFASTS" that we have held in November and D...ecember, each year, since we started this FUNDRASING EVENT in 2005. We originally held this fundraising event to raise funds for our Brother and Sister firefighters in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi,. Their fire department was devastated by hurricane Katrina. After raising over $30,000.00 for them, they were up and running to provide fire/rescue services for their community. We continued the Breakfasts since then, and a percentage of the profits have been donated to various food banks, Firefighters cancer support, Veteran causes, Keith C;aputo's Helping Makes U Happy, and animal rescue groups. Unfortunately, due to the current Covid 19 pandemic, this years fundraisers have been cancelled. Over the years, like our famous annual Barbecue, these events have become a big community get together, and we love this! We are planning to hold food drives to support our local food banks. As all of us know, the current pandemic has placed a burden on us. We, as PROUD AMERICANS, will get through this. As our annual fund drive is now going on, please consider making a donation. If you have already made a donation, WE THANK YOU!!!!! Keep an eye out for our FOOD DRIVES dates. We appreciate your support. See more

October is Fire prevention Month. Annually, fire departments use this month to teach fire safety to the students of our local schools. This year is very different. Fire safety is an every day event not just a few educational minutes in the month of October. Here are a few fire safety tips as the cold weather approaches. Please check and change the batteries in your smoke and CO detectors if they still require batteries. Newer detectors have a ten year sealed battery. Whe...n you change the batteries, check the date of manufacture. If the unit is over ten years old, consider replacing it which could prevent false alarms. Just because the CO unit is plugged into the wall the batteries still loose the charge over time. Check your flue in the fire place before you light the first fire. This may be closed. This could allow dangerous gases and smoke to fill the house if you light the fire place. Interesting fun fact in fire fighting history: Smokey the Bear A small young bear cub was displaced during a wild fire in the Capitan, New Mexico Wild fire of 1950. 30 fire fighters went to rescue this cub when they were overcome by the fire. The fire fighters hunkered down and the flames passed over their position. After an hour had passed the searched for the cub and found him badly burned but alive. The cub was taken to Sante fe for treatment. The U.S. followed the cubs progress through the united press stories. The name smokey was given to the cub. Smokey Bear became the figure of wildfire prevention. The Slogan we all grew up on " Only you can Prevent Forest fires" He became a national hero living out his days in the Washington Zoo. Smokey Bear passed away on 1976. His legend lives on today through wild fire prevention programs and commercials. As a reminder, Eastport Fire Department is always looking for a few good neighbors who are interested in joining the brave men and woman keeping our neighborhoods safe. Please contact Eastport FD or go to our web page Eastportfd.org and fill out an application.
