Check out this incredibly energetic and innovative approach to conducting speech therapy virtually. Many children in our community are receiving early intervention and preschool special education services virtually due to the pandemic. Providers are going above and beyond to make those services work in challenging situations without enough funding. These services are the backbone infrastructure of an effective early childhood system and we need to invest in them now more than ever. Join the Kid's Can't Wait Campaign in New York State.
Spread the word! Parents of young children are invited to join us for an open forum discussion about the ups and downs of parenting during COVID-19 and the digital drain caused by increased screen time. Registration required: bit.ly/FFOCT20
Last fall, only 15% of kindergartners in this Chicago suburb school district were considered ready for kindergarten in all three areas examined, down from 16% l...ast year. Until we acknowledge the need for quality early childhood education for all, we'll continue to see disheartening reports like these.

This is a crisis that the Federal government has failed to address- the consequence to children, families and the economy cannot be more serious and yet...the Federal government fails to act. Child Care is essential to our country's long-term success.
Unacceptable. We can and should be doing better for children in the United States!
If you know someone who wants to open a child care or work in child care- Have them call PEACE to explore this terrific program!

September is Infant Mortality Awareness Month Infant mortality is the death of an infant before his or her first birthday. Preterm birth and low birth weight ar...e some of the leading causes of infant death. Low birth weight is when a baby is born weighing less than 5 pounds, 8 ounces. In Onondaga County, nearly 8% of babies are born at a low birth weight, and Non-Hispanic Black babies are at greater risk than babies of other races and ethnicities. Black babies are also at greater risk for infant death. Learn about ways we can all work to reduce the risk of infant mortality at https://www.nichd.nih.gov//infant-mo/topicinfo/reduce-risk For support and information for giving your baby a healthy start, call Healthy Families at 315.435.2000.
