We bid farewell to Alice Quintin's teacups as we get ready for the holiday season. Thank you, Alice, for loaning us a sampling of your beautiful cups!
The Edmeston Museum will be closed Saturday, November 28th. We will re-open on Saturday, December 5th.
Remember to bring your pumpkins down to the park for the evening "Pumpkin Glow"!
This sweetheart of a tea cup traveled all the way from Japan. Alice's son-in-law brought it to her!! Note that there is a top to keep the water hot and a tea colander to drain the water-infused tea.
Stella and Bobby Schworm gave the museum 5 display cases!! For museums like ours, this is like gold!! Joe, Bill and Ross of Miller Movers and my brother, moved them from Leon's to the museum. Linda Erickson, our town clerk, was at the ready in case they needed to come through her office. I am so thankful for everyone's help so that we could take advantage of this wonderful gift!!
I am partial to violets...so my favorites of Alice's tea cups are the trio of violets! Come see all of Alice's tea cups on display this coming Saturday at the Edmeston Museum.
The Richfield Springs Museum had many smart-looking exhibits that ranged from the "age of elegance" to the home medicine cabinet and from women's sufferage to the kitchen! We were so fortunate -- in this age of COVID -- to tour such an amazing collection!!
The start of "Alice's Tea Part" was a hit! It is available for viewing every Saturday from now until the November 21st.
George Robert Twelve Hewes kept life exciting while living in Boston, MA. It started when he was called as a witness by none other than soon to be 2nd president, John Adams, when Adams was defending the BRITISH for a skirmish that cost the life of a colonist. Hewes then took part in the BOSTON TEA party. After the war, he made his way to Richfield Springs where is remained the rest of his life with wife, Sarah, as a cobbler.
We visited the Richfield Springs Museum and Historical Society!! Village Historian, Harrett Geywits, gave us a tour of both the museum and the village!! We learned the source of the very odoriferious waters, how to button a boot in the 1800s and who George Robert Twelve Hewes was.
Can you guess where our Wednesday Walk-About will take us? Over the hill, thru the dale to a Revolutionary War hero's grave we go....
As we continue through Fire Prevention Week/Month, here is the exhibit at the Richfield Springs Museum and Historical Society celebrating their fire department!
My favorite part about fall? Visiting the Fly Creek Cider Mill. We are fans of apples, cheese, ducks and geese!!
At the Franklin Community & RR Museum they had a 9/11 Remembrance Flag composed of all those that were lost....and other Franklin F.D. memorabilia.
Be sure to visit the museum to check out the Fire Department display!!
Got to see the inside of the new emergency vehicle. Take a look and see how high tech it is!!! And, folks....all of Edmeston thanks you for your service!
Note one of the first "chemical" fire extinguishers and check out that fire ladder...of wood!!
The Wednesday's Walk-About is all about the Warick (an O&W specialty car). There were pull-man beds, "roomy" state rooms, etc. If you have not visited the Franklin Community & RR Museum in Franklin, NY, put it now on your "to do list"!!!
