Happy World Opera Day!!! (Well Belated) I know it was a couple of days ago but I wanted to share some memories and thoughts. This is a turbulent time for everyone, but the Arts world is suffering in many ways. Not just financially but existentially. The Performing Arts Industry is often the last thing considered when it comes to Government assistance. It is thought of as a luxury, as opposed to a necessity. ... As Toby (on the West Wing) put it: "There has been a connection between the progress of a society and progress in the arts. The age of Pericles was also the age of Phidias. The age of Lorenzo de Medici was also the age of Leonardo Da Vinci. The age of Elizabeth was the age of Shakespeare. We all have to help each other get through this, and that includes looking after all industries. Not just the ones that have lobbyists What is life without the arts!?! Protect each other. Stay safe. 2 days ago we premieres a new production of Viktor Ullmann's Der Kaiser von Atlantis at @operamrhein! - In these unbelievably uncertain times, I feel overwhelmingly grateful to be back on stage doing what I love... this Opera has remarkably relevant subject matter that, right now, everyone can absolutely relate to.
