**Lake Shore Rd is open to traffic** There is a large water break on Lake Shore Rd in the Derby area. This break is affecting most of the Town of Evans and other areas in the Southtowns. Erie County Water is aware and on location. There is no estimated time of restoration. Lake Shore Rd between Sturgeon Point Rd and Sweetland Dr is closed to all traffic. Thank you for your patience.

It is with sadness and regret to announce that on Friday, November 13, 2020, retired Town of Evans Police Lieutenant Millard J. Lonkey, Sr. passed away in Somerset, Ohio, he was 89. Millard joined the Evans Police Department on April 1, 1955, and was promoted to Detective in 1968, and Lieutenant in 1971. Lt. Lonkey retired on May 1, 1989. Lt. Lonkey was well-respected, and was described by some of our retirees who had worked with him as a "real policeman... a great supervisor..... couldn't do enough for his men", "A special guy... always took care of his men", "a no-nonsense, spit-and-shine Lieutenant who was always looking out for his men... an honor to have known him". Millard was a US Army veteran and served during the Korean War, and had retired from the US Coast Guard Reserves, according to his family. He was a proud member of the American Legion Post 928, VFW Post 5798, and the Holy Ark Masons. Millard was also a member of the Evans Center Volunteer Fire Company. A private memorial was held by Millard's family in Somerset, Ohio. Our deepest condolences and heartfelt sympathy to Lieutenant Lonkey's family. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Happy Veterans Day to our soldiers, both past and present. We owe you our thanks, but more than that, we owe you our freedom. There's no way to thank our veterans for everything they sacrifice for our freedom, but on Veterans Day, we have to try. So thank you to all our service men and women, both past and present.
