This Thanksgiving, I’ll be making this recipe for the 50+ families who have entrusted us with their holiday. - - This recipe IS Thanksgiving for me. And in many ways IS Evelyn. Her home was my Thanksgiving from 4 years old to almost 40 years old. Same recipes. Same vibe. Same love. - -... Family isn’t always smooth and flawless. Ours is certainly rough around the edges. But the love. The consistency. The familiarity. The smells. The mismatched Tupperware with loose foil that gets pulled out of the fridge the next day. The watching football and holiday tv snuggled under blankets. The long lingering conversations and kids running around. It’s what I miss the most since Evelyn passed away and the holiday changed for me. - - And I think what so many of us will me missing this odd, convoluted dumpster fire of a year. - - This recipe started as a clipping from a @nytimes cooking section article in the 70’s. Evelyn shaped it a little. And I’ve changed it a little more. - - But it’s pretty much perfect. And a little rough around the edges. Just as family should be. - - Happy Thanksgiving ya’ll.
