Stillness is a reflection of our growing openness to the unpredictable unfolding of the world as it is, a freedom from the constant effort to bend things to our liking, to make them conform to our conditioned notions of good and bad. Chip Hartranft, The Yoga-Sutra of Patanjali: A New Translation with Commentary Jump into the flow this afternoon for Sutra Sunday Powerflo. At 4:20pm EST learn how Patanjali advises us to approach our relationships. Then learn how to flow into some fun arm balances. Register HERE: https://www.elizabethjflint.com/shop-1/virtual-yoga

Sutra 1:13 effort to stay there is called practice. Where is there? For me it is the present moment. It takes continuous effort to stay in the present moment when my mind is constantly pulling me away with distractions, worries, daydreams and desires. The practice is simple. When you notice you have strayed you come back. But simple does not mean easy. In fact the mind wants things to be complicated. We get bored when things are simple. But if I ask myself am I bored or is my mind bored? Then I remember that my mind is a tool I can use and not who I am. Join me Sundays at 4:30pm EST for Sutra Sunday’s and Powerflo Yoga. I love playing with variations in standing poses. This one in triangle pose will strengthen your obliques and back muscles. Make sure you microbend your front knee!

The Yoga Sutras say that a yoga pose should be steady and comfortable. However, the Sutras only describe 3 poses (All seated positions intended for meditation). Every other pose we do is meant to prepare us to take these seats of meditation. -- When we open the body by stretching and strengthen the body by holding poses we create the stability and openness we need to sit still for a long time. -- You may think you sit still all the time, but when is the last time you sat mo...tionless without a back to your chair for more than a few moments? -- Why do meditation masters encourage us to sit like this? Because if we are too comfortable- as we are when lounging on a sofa, we will fall asleep or get caught in our daydreams. Yet, if we are too uncomfortable, as we might be sitting in a lotus pose with no cushion, we will only be thinking about our body hurting. It is in a steady seat that is just comfortable enough that we can begin to quiet the mind and tap into something deeper. Ustrasana- Camel Pose, is not a comfortable pose for me. I have tight hip flexors, a long torso and a long neck that doesn't really like going backwards, but doing this pose regularly in a mindful way is one of the best ways to prepare my body and mind for meditation. What poses do you intentionally do even though they are uncomfortable in order to cultivate inner stability? See more

To be honest I miss this so much. It’s been many moons since we’ve gathered in a big light-filled room together for yoga. But in the loss of physical proximity we have gained an awareness of something deeper- our energetic ties. Going digital has created the opportunity to reconnect with students from around the world in a new way, while also creating more space for us to develop our most important relationships- the one with ourselves, with Spirit and with loved ones. Ever...y new circumstance is an opportunity to chose between complaining and clinging or releasing and embracing. Now is the time to let go, rise up and embrace the new.
