Sorry for the lack of posts lately - I'm a terrible social media page manager. Fishing remains incredible! I've got a ton of pictures to upload, but I'll start with some from this past weekend!
Fishing has been out of this world this season. Tonight was a nice relaxing night with a good chew. Give us a shout and let us help catch you a trophy!
Another beautiful April weekend in the books. On Friday we looked around and found very clear water in the brown trout grounds so we slid out a little deeper, bagging a few nice fat lake trout. Easter Sunday found us in very colored water, forcing us out a little deeper to work for brown trout. We were rewarded with a nice box of browns, and our first King Salmon of the season!
Shook down the Fishfull Thinking this weekend. Saturday met us with bright sun and calm water. We got out a little late, trolled for about an hour taking a few nice brown trout before we got a bit tangled up and needed to regroup. Overall, a successful shakedown run. Sunday started out calm and overcast, but a bit chilly. Bite started out slow in clear water. We dropped five of our first six fish. We found a little colored water and everything went nuts! The guys handled the rods will in the chaos and the next thing you know we were boxed out with our 12 fish limit, and releasing the extra fish. We finished the day 14 for 20, all brown trout with one nice steelhead. This season looks like it's going to be amazing!
Wishing everyone a wonderful New Year full of great times, and plenty of FISH! Looking back at 2018 today and our amazing fishery! Thank you to everyone who joined us this season and we look forward to seeing everyone in 2019!
Wishing a VERY Merry Christmas, and a Happy and prosperous New Year to all of our clients, friends and family!
Finally got the boat in the water last week. We fished Friday and Saturday and managed a few fish in some pretty clear water on Saturday. Bayrat stick baits and a few spoon bites were the ticket. Sunday we started out a bit earlier, took a few nice Brown trout in even clearer water including 10lb 9 oz beauty that currently sits on top of the local Brown trout derby leaderboard. We slid out into deeper water to play with the lake trout, and managed one before we were called to assist a disabled boat in need of a tow. Overall, we had a really great first weekend out. Looking forward to a great season with friends new and old, and of course, lots of FISH!
Shakedown weekend success! Great weather, great crew, great times. Makes me want another weekend immediately! Congrats to James Valley on his brown trout derby board fish! If you fish Wayne County, and haven't gotten down to Warren's Hook Line Sinker to register for their annual derby, DO IT! Message us for information on trout fishing opportunities if you are interested in some of the best trout fishing Lake Ontario has to offer!
Feels a little springy out there! Counting down the days until spring brown trout start hitting the deck! We have been spending some time this winter getting our hands on some new gear to prepare for the upcoming season. The fish don't stand a chance!
Merry Christmas friends! We hope everyone gets all kinds of sweet fishing goodies under the tree!
The last few days have been dedicated to the Sodus Bay Project Healing Waters Salmon Slam. We prefished a few days with some friends, topping the weekend off with the event today. Following a Coastguard/Sheriff/Fire Department escort this morning, we fished for several hours in a stiff West wind and building seas. The water was rough today but our Army Vet Cody stuck it out and got himself a few great kings. As always, we enjoyed the day, meeting new people both fishermen and vets. Huge shout out to all the teams, vets, project healing waters volunteers, sponsors and especially Team Ruff Rider for making this happen every year. Nick and Theresa put on an amazing day that is really very rewarding for everyone!
Our girl is out of the water undergoing a complete overhaul on our electronics. In a few days we will have an amazing new Garmin 7610 system. Pretty awesome tech upgrade to help us better see and interpret our water and our fish!
It's been a tough few weeks of fishing out of Sodus, through a late June transition. Looks as though our fish are finally filing in a bit now. We managed a few today, lost more than we landed, but ended up with some quality fillets in the end.
Had a nice evening fishing with some family tonight- a little steelhead action out deep. Aunt Mary took a nice steelhead that gave us a nice areal show on the way in. Our lake is setting up nice for summer fishing!
Are you ready? We sure are! Hoping to get to the boat this weekend for the first time since she was buried in feet of snow. The warmth outside and that bright ball in the sky has us all itching for open water and FISH ON!
Happy New Year! Wishing the very best to all of our family, friends, and customers for 2015. May it be filled with happiness and health - and of course, plenty of fish!
Merry Christmas from our family to yours!
We love it when couples catch em!
A little damp... a little fishy... good :-)
We ran our first official charter of the season today. (A little later than normal, but we are happy to be back). Zach joined Capt. Melissa on his first outing as a deckhand (only his second time trolling), and did an amazing job learning the ropes in the back of the boat. We started off in the thickest fog we have ever navigated, relying on our panel of instruments alone to exit the bay. Once we hit the open water we locked in the autopilot for a solid bearing and started fi...shing. The fog lifted about an hour later and we went 7 for 10 on fish in a half day trip - small kings and several nice steelhead. We unfortunately dropped what was probably the big fish of the day, but the crew still had an amazing time. Hearing our clients repeatedly say "this is awesome!" in the back of the boat is the best reward we can hope for.
After a long terrible spring of nagging power issues on the Fishfull Thinking, we finally got the call we were waiting for yesterday! Our boat is back to flawless and ready to fish! This evening Captain Melissa was joined by Zach, a friend with a huge interest in everything fishing, and no open water trolling experience. He was set up with a warning that on a 3 hour 'shakedown' cruise we may not catch anything because the whole idea is to run gear and run the boat. Two hours,... and 9 hits later he called me a liar. We went 7 for 9 with a mixed bag of steelhead, kings and one Laker (that Melissa got to catch woo hoo!) So the girl and her boat can still catch fish, and Zach, well, he is now hooked for life! Who's Next?
The boat is waxed, and ready to launch! We are hoping for a late week launch... and then FISH ON!

Thinking about spring brown trout today in our sub-zero windchills! Its only a couple of months away, and all of this snow should provide us with nice run-off and excellent spring fishing. We can't wait to start scrambling to grab rods! Come on Spring!!!!
Happy Holidays from all of us at Fishfull Thinking Sportfishing!
We are starting to book for the 2014 fishing season! If anyone has any particular dates in mind, please touch base with us so you get what you want! Happy Thanksgiving from our families to yours!
After a long season, the Searay finally found land today for winter layup. On behalf of the captains and crew we would like to send out a HUGE THANK YOU for everyone who fished with us this season, friends new and old. You're support is everything and without it, our inaugural season would not have been such a great success! A very special thank you goes out to the fine crew at Warrens Hook, Line, and Sinker and Tackle Buster Charters for putting their faith in us, and working with us to make a good season even better! We hope to hear from you all over the winter. Please feel free to share any fishing pictures from the summer on the page - we all need a little something to look forward to! As spring approaches keep an eye out for specials and package deals!
This is what we do... well, part of what we do.
Another great weekend aboard the Fishfull Thinking. Calm, warm weather put us out deep again and it seems as though the bigger fish moved in to the area. We hosted 2 crews of 5 guys going 7 for 10 Saturday and 6 for 9 Sunday with out biggest fish topping out over 27 pounds.
Just in case anyone wanted to know the whole story :)
Went Fishing with First mate John and our friend Salmon Hunter John from Pennsylvania. The captain stepped back and and let the boys run the boat and all the rigging. We were after a big derby fish. No monsters but we had a good solid day of fishing going 9 for 10 on a mixed bag of kings, steelhead, coho, and brown trout.
We had a really great weekend of fishing aboard the Fishfull Thinking. Saturday we teamed up with our great friends at Warren's Hook Line and Sinker and Tackle Buster Charters to fish with a crew of four from Pennsylvania. We had a great time, ended up landing 15 of our 21 hits. Sunday we split up and ran both the Fishfull Thinking and Tackle Buster boats in a little friendly competition. Captain Troy landed a couple more fish than we did to take the day, but we did go 4 for 8 and have some really nice fish to show for it. We went 19 for 29 on the weekend. Couldn't have asked for any better weather or a better crew!
We headed out this morning to take part in the Project Healing Waters Salmon Slam event out of Sodus Bay. The tournament gives veterans a chance to spend a day on the water with our local fisherman (and fisherwomen!). Captains Melissa and Bill and first mate John were joined by our vet, and new friend Bruno and his service dog Nina. We fished in some rough water and nasty conditions dodging waterspouts in the morning to come in fourth place in the event. It was a great event, and we will be back next year for sure!
Nice morning of fishing with a nice family visiting from Illinois. The kids were far better behaved than I. Bill
After missing the first two fish of the morning these guys were rewarded with a slammin' rigger bite and a 26# beauty!
