With the cancelation of NYC Marathon for the 50th Anniversary race I was extremely upset and felt defeated. After I crossed the finish line last year, I told myself I NEED to run next year for the 50th Anniversary and get my third marathon under my belt. With the cancellation I had to make a decision- either not continuing raising money for Team For Kids with no entry for future marathons or, continue raising money for Team for Kids to go towards my 2021,2022, or 2023 Maratho...n with an extra month of raising money. I have then accepted to run 26.2 miles virtually to obtain my third marathon medal. I have then have a few set backs, but if I need to complete my 26.2 miles as a run / walk then I will! . I currently have to raise another $1,715 out of $2,620. I am only $95 away from raising $1,000. Every little bit helps! I thank you so much in advance for your donations. . As of right now, I will be continue to raise money for my guarantee entry for my 2021 TCS NYC Marathon or whenever I am able to run around this city again. So officially running my NYC Marathon Virtually somewhere on Long Island. I’m excited to run, but nervous at the same time. Training in these heatwaves have not been easy and all honestly does not motivate me to run. Since I won’t be able to run my NYC through the five boroughs I’m hoping Long Island can find a good spot for me. . . I am continuing to raise money for the NYC marathon (in person) for 2021. Do any other runners have certain traditions before a race? Here are some of mine: 1. I always straighten my hair and then put my hair in a braid 2. I always eat penne al la vodka the night prior to a race 3. I always wear my NIKE or Under Armor black hat (unless running in Disney) 4. I always pose the same with my medal ... . . With a heavy heart I received an email saying that my TCS NYC 50th Anniversary Marathon is canceled. Words can’t describe how upset I am, how lost I am, and how I so bad wanted to run in my beautiful city a month before I turned 30th and run along side thousands of runners completing a marathon 26.2 amazing wonderful miles. . . As of right now, I will be continuing to raise money for my guarantee entry for my 2021 TCS NYC Marathon or whenever I am able to run around this city... again. I had to take this past week off and recover some recent glute/ hip pain I was getting. I started to notice my left foot that was in a boot for MONTHS started to turn in whenever I would run. From that it was causing glute and hip pain. This stretch has helped speed up the recovery and I ran a fast and steady two miles. Always remember to listen to your body and REST when it is needed . .
As I get older (unfortunately) my body has been having a difficult time with running. Foot in a boot for half a year, knee problems NOW hip / glute issues just to name a few. Today I ran not for speed but for the love of running which I forget to do sometimes. I’m always worried about speed, wanting to be faster, quicker, but sometimes I need to listen to my body and just slow down. As much as I love running trust me there are many times I hate it and just don’t feel like running - especially during this quarantine, and looking at the same roads, houses and trees every run. But then I look at the positives- I’m healthy, I’m able to run, I’m able to breathe , I’m able to better myself everyday with every run. Stay healthy, stay strong ... oh and stretch. . . .
