Happy Birthday to CRAMPS, which turns 52 today.

The DC-10 entered service with PMS in early 1971. It was designed and built by McDonnell Douglas in close cooperation with PMS to fulfill our requirements for a high-capacity widebody jet capable of operating from the close confines of capacity-restricted La Guardia airport on PMS routes to Omaha and Des Moines, for which there happened to be virtually zero passenger demand. Despite all of our best efforts, the DC-10 would ultimately end up claiming the lives of more PMS pass...engers than any other aircraft in the PMS fleet. In a botched attempt to capitalize on the notion that "there’s really no such thing as bad publicity," "DC10 DeathStar" titles were applied to the center engine shortly after the first few fatal accidents. They were removed, however, just a few months later when terrified PMS passengers began canceling their reservations. It was at this point that the PMS Marketing Department realized they had probably gone too far. Abysmal accident rates aside, the DC-10 went on to become a favorite among PMS passengers, who enjoyed its spacious, wide body cabin on trunk routes throughout the US. And in keeping with the aircraft’s unusually high mortality rate, Midwesterners were especially pleased as they snacked their way toward coronary artery disease and morbid obesity on mountains of corn dogs and cheese fries, which were a legendary treat in PMS Tourist throughout the 70s and early 80s. This time, she made it in without a scratch. Let’s keep our fingers crossed her luck doesn’t run out.
