Today November 30 at 6 pm EST on Zoom: Join artist Abigail DeVille and curator Eileen Jeng Lynch in conversation about DeVille’s flag works since 2007, which reexamine this iconic American symbol. Utilizing locally found materials and detritus, DeVille’s work unearths forgotten histories and labor of marginalized people. Wednesday December 2 at 1 pm EST on Zoom: Tune in for a virtual tour of "Sanford Biggers: Codeswitch," on view at the Bronx Museum through January 24, 2021,... followed by a discussion exploring the historical layers and plurality of Biggers's quilt-based works and the further implications of the exhibition amid the current political moment. Join @forwhichitstands via Instagram Live on Friday December 5 @ 1 pm EST for a walkthrough with artists Donna Bassin and Stephanie J. Woods spotlighting their works in Bound up Together: On the 100th Anniversary of the 19th Amendment at Smack Mellon, followed by a conversation moderated by Eileen Jeng Lynch. Tomorrow, Nov. 25 at 12 pm EST: "How Do You Properly Fry An American Flag" by artist Kiyan Williams will be featured in their new video on @forwhichitstands IG and website. The process and performance of cooking the flag, an ongoing series Williams began during quarantine in July of 2020, transforms the iconic object visually and conceptually into a deliciously grotesque, bubbling, and charred sculpture. On the eve of Thanksgiving, join us to reflect on national mythologies, food culture, and consumption. https://www.forwhichitstands.art/kiyan-williams #kiyanwilliams #forwhichitstands #assemblyroom
