WARNING! SCAMMERS!!! Folks, in the past week alone we have been contacted by 3 heartbroken scammed families. We are hearing from 5 to 10 people a month who have been scammed out of hundreds of dollars. Siberian cats are rare. You are going to wait for a kitten from a reputable breeder!!! ... 5 Signs of Scamming: * Price very low- Likely a scam * Kitten available right away - Likely a scam * Advertising on Craigslist? - Likely a scam * New Facebook page? - Could be a scam * Ships kitten? Likely a scam Take 5 steps to avoid being scammed: 1. Verify breeder is TICA / CFA registered: Cattery name, breeder name, location. 2. Ask for several references of families with kittens from the breeder. 3. Learn about the breed - what are the average wait times, the average costs, then search the cattery online. If it’s too good to be true, it’s a scam. 4. Pay for your kitten IN PERSON. Reputable breeders require you pick up your kitten in person. They do not ship kittens cargo! 5. Assess Website, Facebook page & Instagram accounts. - If they are brand new, breeder could be a scam. - if accounts are only kittens posted for sale (FYI this is illegal on Facebook, Instagram, and even Craiglist!), and no dialogue with kitten families, no cat care advice etc, it’s probably a scam.
