You know you’ve raised a farm kid when the family gathers at the window to watch a bald eagle eating one of our chickens and she starts singing Oh, say can you see... #freerangechickens

One of our all-time favorite pasta dishes: white beans, garlic, tomatoes (happy I froze so many San Marzanos last fall), celery, and spinach. On the table in 30 minutes if you don’t dawdle. #thefarmerskitchen #farmtofork

A big thank you to @zariajadecaprio for farm sitting this weekend. Getting away is not easy with a full greenhouse and chickens, but she handled it all seemingly with ease. #farmergal #farmsitting

In case you are wondering, yes you can - nay, you must! - dye brown eggs. See last year’s photo for evidence. We are well stocked with eggs for your Easter baskets. Stop by the farmstand anytime during daylight hours. #eastereggs #supportlocalhens

If you have a moment, read this beautiful piece by Elizabeth Dias from NYT as we mark the beginning of winter https://www.nytimes.com//12/20/us/how-to-survive-winter.ht The undeniable hardship of this winter is a reminder that for much of human history, particularly in colder climates, winter was a season simply to be survived. Winter is a primal time of death and loss, and a time for grief. It reminds us that darkness, not only light, is part of the recurring rhythm of w...hat it means to be human. I have spent some long, scary nights waiting for the sun to come up. There have also been some long, barren seasons when I feared the sap would never rise again, Barbara Brown Taylor, an author and Episcopal priest, reflected. The hardest thing is to keep trusting the cycle, to keep trusting that the balance will shift again even when I can’t imagine how. So far it has.

I heard a bird sing in the dark of December/ A magical thing, and sweet to remember/ We are nearer to Spring than we were in September/ I heard a bird sing in the dark of December. -Oliver Herford

I confess I had not been inside @readandreadagain for some time, but so glad so stopped by on Saturday! I picked up several wonderful books as gifts and one for myself, AND ran into several friendly faces to boot! What a sweet little space @cbucci2010 has created for us in here. I will be back soon! #shopsmall #shoplocal #supportlocalbusiness #secondhandbooks

It’s never too late to shop local! One of your stops should be @royalmeadery up the road in Delmar, where you can pick up some of their unique handcrafted meads. The story behind this place is truly inspiring, as Greg and Kristen built it from a class project at SUNY Cobleskill to the first licensed farm meadery in NYS! Their tasting room is temporarily closed for pandemic, but you can order to-go cans and other products on site or on line www.meadtogo.com. What a fun gift this would be for someone! #supportyourlocalmeadery #shoplocal #shopsmall #supportyourlocaleverything
