Dear Friends: Hoping you remember us as you give this holiday season. In 2006, the Village of Ossining Board of Trustees dedicated 45 acres of parkland. One of the properties is the Richard G. Wishnie Park located on Pleasantville Road. The 5 acre park includes a body of water, a walking and running trail, a fishing dock, and benches where one can sit and observe the beautiful surroundings. ... Hundreds of our neighbors of all ages use and enjoy the park regularly and to assure its continued use, it is important to maintain the park to keep it clean, safe, and protected. Unfortunately, the park is showing signs of its heavy use, loss of trees, broken benches, and a sagging support that holds the fishing pier. The Village of Ossining Recreation and Parks Department, do a great job with their limited staff in not only maintaining Wishnie Park, but also all the other parks and recreation facilities in the Village. However, limited Village resources do not provide adequate funds necessary to make the repairs and improvements required to assure that our residents will continue to enjoy this park. With the help of several volunteers, we have created a not-for-profit corporation, the Friends of Richard G. Wishnie Park, Inc. The purpose of this group will be to raise money that can be used to make improvements to the park as may be needed. Clearly, the naming of the park facility was the greatest honor I have received in more than forty years of community service. I am very pleased that we now will have a vehicle in place that can assist the community with private contributions that will help support the infrastructure of the park. Hello Friends!!!! It has truly been an exciting year for the Friends of Richard G. Wishnie Park. Due to your generosity and the support of the Village of Ossining Parks and Recreation Department, major infrastructure improvements have been made to improve the safety and beauty of the park. * A totally new, widened and improved walkway has been installed around the lake. It is now free from tripping hazards, and wide enough for walking or jogging without needing to squeeze by ...other users. It also allows for emergency vehicles to have access all around the park. * A new split rail fence has been installed where needed, to keep pedestrians and our pets from accidentally slipping down steep inclines. Poison ivy was identified and removed as well. * Old and worn picnic tables have been removed and replaced with brand new tables. We also are open to hearing your suggestions on how we can improve your experience in the park. Please feel free to contact us with any ideas or comments. We very much wish to continue to maintain and improve Richard G. Wishnie Park as it it the most heavily used year-round recreation facility in the region. Thank you so much for your support. Along with the Village of Ossining, Dave’s Fences, and you ( the Friends of Richard G Wishnie Park ) the new post and rail fence is being constructed. This fence is for the safety of the hundreds of people who walk this path. Have you been to the park lately?

Are you interested in joining the group that not only works hand in hand with Village of Ossining to improve Richard G Wishnie Park and soon to move to projects for all of our Parks in Ossining ? Membership to the Friends of Richard G Wishnie Park is a $25 or higher donation. You will receive a Friends of Richard G Wishnie Park baseball cap as our THANK YOU. We have members who joined when we first announced our membership drive and others who have joined along the way. We ...thank you for your support The Friends group had contributed over $14,000 to improvements in the Park including (but not limited to) the cost of the fencing around the parking lot and the soon to be installed fencing (guardrail) on the inside slope of the track. We have been part of the solution to get dog poop bags (thank you Pet Valu) in the park and helped bring awareness of the needs of the Park to the Village of Ossining Administration.
