On physical exam, I found (this) horse in good condition, no evidence of struggle, no marks, no fractures, and no injuries consistent with abuse or mishandling, Dr. Camilo B. Sierra wrote of her post-mortem examination for the city’s Health Department. https://nypost.com//nyc-carriage-horse-euthanized-last-y/

Please help a long time supporter, Monica Welde, who together with her family, dating back decades, operates Bearadise Ranch a sanctuary in Florida for bears needing homes - of which there are many due to habitat destruction and other causes. I have visited myself and can vouch that the bears under her care are loved and are thriving. You just have to watch them swimming and frolicking in the pond that is onsite to understand how they are thriving. Recently, at what is belie...ved to be the behest of PETA, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission denied her a renewal of her license, despite the fact that Bearadise Ranch has no violations and just made a number of wonderful (costly) improvements. What you can do is to send an email to the Governor asking him to rectify this miscarriage of justice at [email protected] or by clicking this link: https://the-cavalry-group.rallycongress.com//5c991b3c3aee3 https://www.facebook.com/mwelde2

It is with tremendous shock and sadness that the NYC carriage community reports that Aisha, a 12 year old mare, had to be humanely euthanized yesterday evening ...following an acute medical emergency. The horse showed sudden signs of distress around 12:30 pm on Saturday after doing a single ride and then waiting for approximately an hour and a half at the 7th Ave carriage stand. The vet and our emergency horse trailer were called immediately, and the horse unhitched and unharnessed. She progressively and rapidly weakened in her hind end and unexpectedly collapsed. The trailer arrived within 10 minutes of the call and, since the horse could not stand, she was slid into the trailer, following large animal rescue protocols, and returned to her stable on 52nd St. Her regular vet was able to begin assessment and treatment within an hour. Unfortunately, she was never able to stand, apparently due to cardiac insufficiency in her hind end, and her owner, in consultation with the vet, made the difficult but humane decision to put her to sleep. Lab work is still pending, but ultimately a cardiac event is suspected. The NYC Department of Health is apprised of the situation, as they are with any and all carriage horse incidents. Medical emergencies can happen to the healthiest horses, receiving the best, highly-regulated care. Thankfully, *because* she was a NYC carriage horse, this horse was able to receive immediate attention from expert equine veterinarians, her owner and drivers, and our compassionate stable staff. Unfortunately, despite doing everything we could for this horse, we did not get the outcome we hoped for, and are left wondering what happened. Animal rights extremists are already exploiting this tragedy to further their anti-horse agenda during our time of grief and shock. This medical emergency appears to be something that could happen to any horse, any time, anywhere, for any number of reasons, under a wide variety of conditions. The reality is that any where there are animals - or people - medical emergencies happen. Living and working with horses - and loving and caring for them - means that sometimes your heart gets broken when you have to say goodbye, especially far too soon. Our condolences most of all to Aisha’s owner, drivers and friends who knew her.
