This summarizes the purpose of our SUNY For All campaign perfectly. Our SUNY Educational Opportunity Centers break down barriers to those students who need help with a career change or need to earn a basic education to advance themselves in today's economy.
Earlier today, we got to see the new efforts at Binghamton University to administer one-shot COVID-19 vaccines to students. Our students all across the system know it's their turn to get vaccinated and they're all ready to help us all get back to normal.
34 mascots competed, one came out on top. After nearly 40,000 votes through the tournament, we have a new Mascot Madness champion in Red from SUNY Oneonta, who narrowly defeated rookie Boomer T. Cannoneer from Jefferson Community College. Congrats to all mascot competitors - it was another great event.
Chancellor Malatras joined WGRZ - Channel 2, Buffalo to discuss how vaccinations for students would work at SUNY. Simply put, the students are asking for it and acting as ambassadors on their own.
We're doing our part to end the pandemic - 34 SUNY campuses will receive a first round of 18,600 Johnson & Johnson vaccines from New York State that will be reserved specifically for residential students. The one dose vaccine will help get students vaccinated prior to their spring semester departure.

As we work to get the spring semester started safely, the outlook for spring sports is looking brighter across SUNY, with word that the SUNY Athletic Conference is preparing a plan to allow competition to resume this season. Chancellor Malatras explains how and why when he talked to Local 22 & Local 44.
A new collaboration between the University at Buffalo and Upstate Medical University is helping to increase our COVID testing and safety efforts. Testing capacity will increase 75%, or by 150,000 tests, for a total of 350,000 tests that will be able to be processed each week across SUNY to help keep students, faculty, and staff safe.
With safety plans in place, we're ready to welcome students back to campus for the spring semester knowing that together we can build a community that is safe and healthy, where educational success is possible. We're in this together.
