Unfortunately with menopause along comes some noticeable changes to the skin and hair, fortunately with the right care you can lessen these effects. Age Sports + Sun Damage: If you’ve spent a lot of time in the sun without sunscreen you’ll likely see these effects now. What to do? To help resolve, you should apply sunscreen everyday, even if you are staying indoors. Schedule a skin cancer screening. Start self skin exams and ask your dermatologist for their recommendation f...or treating age spots. Bruise Easily: As estrogen levels fall, skin becomes thinner and thin skin bruises more easily. What to do? Apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher every day. While this cannot thicken your skin, it can prevent further thinning. Also consult with your dermatologist about treatment options, for some women a retinoid can help and for other laser treatments can be another solution Dry Skin: In menopause skin loses some ability to hold water, so the skin can become a little dry. What to do? Wash with a mild cleansers, apply moisturizer after bathing and throughout the day when skin feels dry. Ask your dermatologist is microdermabrasion or exfoliation may help. Facial Hair: As levels of female hormones fall, you can see unwanted hair under your chin, jawline or above your lip. What to do? See your dermatologist on the best option for your hair removal. Sometimes if your skin is too thin it can tear and bleed if you wax, so laser hair removal or a prescription for a hair-reduction cream can be the answer! Hair Loss: Many women will experience thinning hair on their head, the first sign is usually a widening part or hairline may begin to recede. What to do? See a dermatologist on the first sign of the problem. The earlier you start treating it the better your results will be. Jowls, slack skin, and wrinkles: In menopause, skin quickly loses collagen. Studies show that women’s skin loses about 30% of its collagen during the first five years of menopause. What to do? Continue to protect your skin from the sun, this can help reduce visible wrinkles and prevent new wrinkles. Consider using a skin care product that contains retinol or peptides

Spring is here! As we find ourselves in the rhythm of cleaning out our clutter in our homes and life this season, the same goes for our skincare products! This is the perfect time to get rid of things you don't need or no longer serve you. Make sure to ask yourself these key questions when deciding: *Have you had this product for over 6 months and still haven't used it? More than likely you still won't use it. Also if you check the period date and the product has been opened... longer than that date, it's a good idea to toss the product as well. *Is this product aligned with my skincare goals? If not, it's a great idea to pass along to a family member or friend who can have better use for it. I recommend practicing this exercise twice a year with the change of the seasons (spring/winter) - hope this was helpful!

Happy National Rosacea Month! The National Rosacea Society (NRS) designates April as Rosacea Awareness Month to educate the public on the impact of this chronic and widespread facial disorder that affects more than 16 million Americans! Rosacea is often under-diagnosed and misunderstood. While so many are affected, most people unfortunately don't know it. At first rosacea may come and go as a flush or blush. Without treatment, it often progresses with the redness graduall...y becoming permanent and more pronounced. Blood vessels can become enlarged blood vessels and the skin may be dry and sensitive. Red bumps and pustules may appear and be mistaken for acne. In more severe cases, especially what I've seen in men, knobby-like bumps may develop on the nose and may appear swollen. In some patients, the eyes and eyelids may be irritated and red as well. Temples. In my opinion, one of the most under treated areas in aesthetics. One of the earliest signs of aging is loss of volume in the temple area. One of my problem areas, definitely. Once all of the weight came off with pregnancy, I felt like my temples looked worse than they had pre-pregnancy. Shout out to Dr. Anthony Rossi @dranthonyrossi for making me feel full again. It is imperative that this area be treated by a board certified dermatologist who knows his or her anatomy. The temporal artery runs superficially in this area. If punctured and injected, there have been cases of reported blindness. Other than mild soreness, the area looks more youthful and I feel great! Thanks Ant!

There's been a lot of attention lately on PCOS and how this particular condition has a direct correlation with acne.
