FROM HERE TO THERE We added visual interest to a hallway with a wall of flush doors by painting it a rich blue and mounting a series of engravings of the moon from @stevenclaroff on the doors creating pattern, graphic punch , and visual interest. And while the doors and closets behind are still fully functional they have become background. A series of ‘Pop Round’ flush mount lights in blue from @urbanelectricco reinforce the design strategy of creating a memorable space in wh...at previously was just ‘from here to there’. #interiordecorating #hallway #hallwaydecor #urbanelectricco #glenngisslerdesign #interiordesignalchemy #ggdnyc #chinesechippendale #stvensclaroff #interiordesigner #artconsultant #bluedecor

HAPPY BIRTHDAY KEITH HARING! This poster by artist Keith Haring (1958-1990) has personal significance. The first day of the first summer I spent in New York City I attended an enormous Anti-Nuclear Rally (reportedly 500,000 people!) in Central Park with some new friends.... As we approached Central Park there was Keith Haring personally handing out these posters. He was a tall very thin regular guy with round glasses, but he had already left an indelible mark on the culture of NYC with his seemingly endless number of chalk drawings in the subway stations on the black paper used to cover up ads that were past their date. He was a renegade artist spreading positivity. Haring created this poster for Nuclear Disarmament, which features his signature Radiant Baby in a mushroom cloud. Babies represent the possibility of the future, Haring said, the understanding of perfection, how perfect we could be. There is nothing negative about a baby, ever The reason that the baby has become my logo or signature is that it is the purest and most positive experience of human existence. #keithharing #haring #antinuclear #protests #1982 #modernartist #modernartists #eastvillage #eastvillageartsdistrict #glenngisslerdesign #artadvisor #interiordesigner #nydesigner

AT HOME with TOWN & COUNTRY After a long run as an Editor on Home and Culture, @samedford created a beautiful book At Home with Town & Country, 2010. I was, and remain thrilled to be included in this beautiful publication with the likes of @jeffreybilhuber @thomasobriendesign @bunnywilliams @victoriahaganinteriors @delphinereedkrakoff @michaelsmithinc @petermarinoarchitect @ralphlauren and many others!... My project was a sprawling art-filled duplex apartment of Caroline Hirsch and Andrew Fox. Today, Medford continued her career at Architectural Digest, T Magazine, remains a significant cultural influencer in her work with WSJ Magazine and other consulting and writing projects. #townandcountry #sarahmedford #glenngisslerdesign #designbooks #interiordesign #interiordecorating #wsjmagazine #artcollector

Some of the skinny on David Hare David Hare was born on March 10, 1917, in New York City into an affluent family. Hare's mother, Elizabeth Sage Goodwin, called Betty, was a renowned art collector from a wealthy family active in avant-garde art circles and a friend to artists, including Constantin Brâncui and Marcel Duchamp.... In 1913, she was among the patrons of the famed Armory Show that featured advanced European modern art to a large American audience. Hare's uncle, Philip Goodwin, was a trustee and along with Edward Durrell Stone, designed the original Museum of Modern Art. David Hare’s father, Meredith Hare, was a prominent corporate attorney, who supported all of his wife's activities. Betty was a generous benefactress of social issues, museums, and individual artists. As a result, Hare was exposed to art early in life and grew up in privileged circles of New York and Washington D. C. His cousin was Kay Sage, a surrealist painter married to the French artist Yves Tanguy. Like many artists living in Europe, as the Second World War was developing, Sage and Tanguy moved to the United States settling in Woodbury, Connecticut, a few miles from both David Hare and Alexander Calder. #arthistory #davidhare #kaysage #yvestanguy #surrealism #philipgoodwin #moma #glenngisslerdesign #artadvisor

A REAL SUNROOM! As we approach the Winter Solstice and the days get shorter, I think about downing time in this Sun Room. In a 1920’s Colonial Revival we found a way to make this previously underused Sun Room into one of the most appealing rooms in the house!... The five-sided room has windows all around looking out to a mature and beautiful flower garden, with sun all day long; benefit for plants and humans alike! The oversized mirror further extends the view and light. The custom sofa is from @woodspringdown is covered in a lavender linen from @casamance_official, the custom coffee table is from Eric Cuper. . #sunroom #sunroomdecor #newyorkdesigner #interiorsdesign #interiordecorating #interiorinspo #glenngisslerdesign #ggdnyc #interiordesignalchemy #interiordesign #interiors #homesweethome #instahome

Alfred Leslie in the Hamptons. We sourced this bold abstract expressionist painting #44, 1959 by Alfred Leslie (b. 1927) to hang in the double-height entry foyer opposite a dramatic window facing onto the dunes and the Atlantic Ocean. It is most certainly up to the task! For many years we left the painted paneling in the foyer of this Francis Fleetwood designed home unadorned. However when giving the public spaces a major refresh we decided to reconsider how we could use an...d decorate the space - Art was the single most important element. Alfred Leslie’s long career as an artist, writer and filmmaker defies neat categorization. He rose to prominence as an Abstract Expressionist, with a uniquely layered and geometric approach to painting and collage. In the 1960s, however, Leslie abandoned abstraction entirely to focus on a confrontational form of realism. Still living and working in New York City at 93 years old Leslie currently lives and works in New York. Alfred Leslie’s work is in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art , the Whitney Museum of American Art, and The Art Institute of Chicago. #hamptons #hamptonsstyle #artcollector #artwork #artcollection #hamptonsrealestate #hamptonslife #luxurylifestyle #luxurylifestyle #newyorkdesigner #glenngisslerdesign #ggdnyc #interiordesignalchemy #art #artadvisor #artadvisory #abstractpainting #abstractexpressionism #francisfleetwood

NESTING As the weather in the Northeast turns colder, home is a place we seek warmth, comfort and reassurance. After spending so much time at home as we navigate the pandemic small delights in our environments are all the more important. And witnessing elusive moments of beauty - like sunlight streaming into a room, highlighting something familiar in a new way - are moments to acknowledge and cherish.... #housetour #honesweethome #glenngissler #ggdnyc #interiordesignalchemy #panelling #robsjohngibbings #nesting #myhousebeautiful #interiordecorating #interiorinspo #currenthomeview #homedesign #instadesign #newyorkdesigner #designinspiration #designinterior #glenngisslerdesign #interiordesigns #interiordesignlovers
