"Something you value is something that's important to you," said Chavonne, one of our Programming Committee Volunteers, to our girls while explaining GfG's Eight Developmental Assets during a recent session. Alisha values serving her community of fellow mentees, as she assembles supply kits to be used for all sorts of activity sessions.
Being part of the GfG family means sharing which assets some of us are working on and which ones we can improve on. "One of the eight assets I need to work on is time management. I have a lot of extracurricular activities I can do so I'm learning not to procrastinate," said mentee Kalisa at one of our recent meetings. Pictured here is fellow mentee Jaylynn participating in one of her favorite extracurricular activities she dedicates her time to.
"My mentor suggested that we go rock climbing and we face our fear of heights. While climbing I felt anxious, however when we reached the top of the wall, another goal was achieved. Ty and I have a bond that continues to grow as we spend time together," says Sierra about her mentor, Ms. Cunningham.
Positive Identity is, "thinking positively of yourself and having an open mindset," says Mentee Leah, pictured here with her friend and fellow mentee, Sanai, during our trip to the National Museum of African American History.
The kind of friendship we're all a little more grateful for now... "My mentor and I are a great match because whenever we see each other or talk we both always learn something new from the other. There is never a dull moment!" -Mentee Sydney about Ms. Dalphine
Words we're here to help you remember
We always come together to reflect on and celebrate our history. We're kicking off #blackhistorymonth with some memories and wise words from our trip to the Contemplative Court at the Smithsonian's National Museum of African American History and Culture.

Honoring our Veterans!! Thank you from GfG
We're always recruiting women who want to be someone who matters to someone who matters at GfG. Thanks for letting us highlight your relationship for #nationalmentoringmonth Joan and Gabbi!
They told her she could not weather the storm. She replied, "I am the storm." #historyismade #blackgirlmagic #vpkamalaharris
