This provision will extend medicaid coverage for new moms for a year postpartum instead of the usual 60 days. This can have a huge impact in reducing postpartum issues.

Gentle PSA to all my pregnant and new mamas: Dreft scores an ‘F’ on the EWG Guide to Clean Living. ‘F’ as in the lowest score you could get in school (A to F).... And, it’s based on a few reasons (see pics). Not convinced? Just hop over to Google and type Dreft EWG and click the first link. You’ll be directed to the EWG’s (Environmental Working Group) website where you can explore why it receives such a poor rating. (Hint: you can also check other laundry detergents this way.) Yes, a laundry detergent made specifically for babies scores an F on human safety. How can this be?! Because the FDA doesn’t regulate or inspect personal care products (or their ingredients) for safety in America i.e. they also have no authority to pull them off shelves if there are adverse reactions. A $65 billion industry with little to no regulation. Personal care products, like laundry detergent, fall under the Food, Drug & Cosmetic Act which hasn’t been largely updated, since 1938. And, there have been 85,000 chemicals introduced to the marketplace since WWII. The worst offender: ‘fragrance.’ It’s an umbrella term for hundreds of other chemicals and an industry trade secret meaning they don’t have to tell us what makes up their ‘fragrance’ formula. Don’t take my word for it: Be your own advocate! Good news: There are many other non-toxic, clean, safer & affordable laundry detergents to choose from that are just as good at getting out the poop and puke, but without the short term (aka rash) and long-term side effects. Some even get an 'A' score or are EWG-verified (the best!). Updated to add: my faves are Molly's Suds, Seventh Generation, Greenshield Organic, ECOS (Earth Friendly Products), & Attitude. See the full list of how laundry detergents stack up here (Note: brands labeled ‘free & clear’ do NOT necessarily mean safer): https://www.ewg.org/guides/categories/9-Laundry It’s really that easy. I wish someone had told me when I was pregnant with my first, so now I’m passing along to you. May the odds be ever in your favor and I hope you get 6 hours of uninterrupted sleep tonight.
