The other day, my aircraft mechanic apprentices, Matt and Josiah, were trying to figure what kind of jet was parked on the ramp at Greater Binghamton Airport (BGM) / Edwin A Link Field. It was a Gulfstream G650ER so we went out to take a closer look. The plane and the crew were from Gulfstream Aerospace Corporation, in town to support a customer. When I explained that the guys were training to become aircraft mechanics, the crew gave us an amazing tour of the plane. They got ...to sit in the front and actually work several systems including the heads up display and change the fuel tank for the auxiliary power unit. The crew also showed them several parts of the structure and even took them into the "Hell Hole," the area in the tail where many of the aircraft systems reside and are maintained. It is an amazing and beautiful plane and the crew was awesome to spend over an hour showing it to the next generation of aviation professionals. We also got great Gulfstream G650ER hats. A very special congratulations to Leah Watson on earning her private pilot license on June 13, 2020. She is a senior at Owego Free Academy and heads off to the US Air Force Academy later this month. Congratulations to Kevin McManus on his successful first solo flight on March 12, 2020. Kevin began flying at the Goodrich Pilot Training Center when he was pretty young and over the years has flown with just about all our instructors.
