Happy and healthy Passover to all who celebrate from GCOMS! When we think of holidays, we think of food. Food is the best part of holidays, and Passover is no exception to this! GCOMS wants to make sure you’re eating healthy and tooth-friendly foods this Passover. Matzo is the main staple food for Passover, and there does exist healthier alternatives! One Matzo contains the equivalent of two slices of bread. Before you go heavy on the Matzo, you may want to consider buying a ...light Matzo, which contains 2/3 the calories of regular Matzo. That being said, there are a lot of healthy food options for Passover. Here’s some healthy Passover foods to eat: Light meats such as chicken or turkey Gefilte fish Eggs Fruits and vegetables Sweet potatoes or yams Light Matzo Nuts Olive or grape seed oil and vinegar Greek yogurt As well as some Passover foods to stay away from in order to continue your healthy eating: Cheddar cheese Potato latkes While you can take the steps to make sure you’re having a healthy Passover, foods related to Passover are healthy in general. Eggs, Chicken Matzo Ball Soup, Gefilte Fish, Horseradish, and wine all have their added health benefits. Eggs are a good source of protein and have Vitamin A and D. Chicken Matzo Ball Soup contains chicken stock and vegetables, which are also high in protein and vitamins. Gefilte fish contains protein and vitamins and minerals such as zinc and potassium. Horseradish, another staple food item for Passover, is a low caloric food and contains vitamin C, potassium, calcium, magnesium and phosphorus. Lastly, the wine! Red wine is known to have added benefits for your circulatory system, in minimum amounts of course. While you’re eating healthy for Passover, you can also make other healthy decisions. Take a walk with your family and/or friends after a heavy meal, or just because! A short walk around could be the perfect opportunity to appreciate the people that are close to you and get some exercise while you’re at it.

March marks National Women’s History Month each year, and we at GCOMS wanted to take this opportunity to celebrate the stories of three female dentists who made history by blazing the trail for all women who wished to enter the dental profession. Like so many of our female referring dentists these three amazing women became famous for going where no women had been allowed before. 1. EMELINE ROBERTS JONES Emeline Roberts Jones famously became the first ever practicing female ...Continue reading

Our staff, like our referring doctors are family. Multiple times a year we get together with them and like to do fun things. We miss it so much! Tonight our front desk employee Kathy organized and lead our own paint and sip in our waiting room. Covid or not, fun must be had. Dr. Klein was a great sport and good time was had by all. Unfortunately we will not be displaying their masterpieces in the office. Who knows what’s next?#thankskathy

Happy National Cookie Day! Yes, that is right, today is that day. There seems to be a national holiday for everything these days and this is one that we can really rally behind. If you are home with kids and need a fun activity, making smile cookies is ridiculously easy. Just take your bake or use your favorite cookie, add vanilla frosting tinted with red food coloring and mini marshmallows for teeth! Another great thing about National cookie day is that companies that make c...Continue reading

With only a few weeks left in the year, now is the best time to take a look at your dental insurance plan to check if you have any unused benefits left before the year comes to an end. Some of you have Flex Spend accounts that you have been funding all year yet have not used. You may not realize that the benefits and funds go away at the end of the year! At GCOMS, we want you to have the best dental care and the healthiest teeth possible while getting the most out of your ben...efits. If you have dental insurance, your policy allows for a certain dollar amount of coverage to be provided to you each year. If your maximum coverage benefit is not used during the year, you lose those benefits because unused coverage does not carry over to the next year. The good news is you can still take advantage of your dental benefits before they run out. Many dental insurance plans provide coverage for two checkups a year at six-month intervals. So, if you haven’t had a cleaning in the last six months, now is an excellent time to schedule an appointment with your dentist. Getting regular checkups ensures your teeth and gums are in great shape, and it gives you the chance to review your oral health to make sure problems aren’t developing. Plus, you’ll get to enjoy a professionally cleaned and polished smile, which can have you leaving the office feeling like a more radiant, confident you! If you have been thinking about getting implants, wisdom teeth removed or any more costly service, now is the time to get it done or to begin the process. The treatment you start today can be paid for by your flex spending account or your dental insurance you have right now. You can continue or finish treatment in 2021 when your coverage renews and FSA start to accrue again. If you participate in a Flexible Spending or Health Savings Account, in most cases money left in these accounts at the end of the year is forfeited. These are benefits that you have paid for! Make sure to use them before you lose them! Although dental treatment is never dictated by an insurance policy, our experience has shown that careful planning can often help maximize your benefits. Call us today at (212) 986-08151 to make sure you get an appointment before the end of the year. We look forward to hearing from you!

Even before the pandemic, GCOMS always followed the CDC, ADA And AAOMS PPE guidelines for sanitation and protection to the extreme. When you are growing up, hopefully you are taken to the dentist to begin your dental care and continue to see one throughout your lifetime to maintain dental health. Everyone is wearing masks these days. They are necessary. But even if there is a printed smile on the outside, you must take care of what is actually on the inside. Quarantine has kept us all from our typically scheduled health visits. What we have been doing a lot of is EATing!! We have baked, toasted, and grilled everything under the sun. It is time now to start emerging from your cocoon and begin a new. Whatever that may be. Many of us have a new take on that.
