Here's a few safety tips that are also great teaching tools for kids to stay safe around vehicles at night... -Only cross at designated areas waiting for the proper signal prompts -Check both directions prior to crossing the street -Teach kids to maintain eye contact with drivers while they cross... -When in doubt - always assume that the driver does not see you -Use bright / reflective clothing (or items) to show the benefit of being seen at night -Set the right example by putting your smartphone down and paying full attention to your kids and the surrounding traffic hazards See more

As part of our ongoing partnership with UB, Great Lakes Environmental & Safety Consultants had the pleasure of engaging with Occupational Safety & Health students today at UB. We were invited in as guest lecturers to provide students with some insights as to what they can expect when they pursue careers as safety professionals. I think we probably learned just as much as they did in the process. It was refreshing to be with such energetic and passionate individuals who already have a deep-rooted desire to help people stay safe. The future of safety is in good hands. Great Lakes is proud to have provided onsite safety support during the renovation and construction phases of the former Clearing Niagara Plant as it became the Northland Workforce Training Center. On Tuesday evening at BNMA's 2019 Manufacturing Night we finally saw the finished product - and wow what an impressive transformation. From a quarter-century abandoned eyesore into a state-of-the-art training facility that will fuel Western New York's manufacturing engine with a new generation of skilled talent. This is a win win win for everyone involved and we are so happy to see the doors open - and to hear the machinery buzzing inside :)

Buffalo's Skyway is open again! Originally constructed in 1953 it's now the focus of much debate in New York and beyond as to what it could/should become in the future. Great Lakes provided onsite Safety Support for the hardworking crews that recently renovated the Skyway. We're honored to be part of Buffalo's building renaissance. We're going back to school :) We're excited to announce that we will be partnering with the University at Buffalo's Department of Industrial Systems and Engineering - specifically the school's Occupational Safety and Health Program. UB would like access to real-life industrial safety issues and experts that cannot be recreated in a classroom- and Great Lakes would like to contribute to future generations of safety professionals by ensuring that safety theory is balanced with the reality of field operations. We would also like to remain on the cutting edge of emerging technologies that can improve safety - and having access to dedicated safety laboratories and brilliant young minds can lead to game-changing innovations
