Greenport Regatta is on! Saturday, October 10th. Bigger and better this year. Ocean Race starts at 8am with the max ebb tide at Hay Beach Point at 8:16. Should be a fast race to Block. New this year, the start and finish will be right off Claudio's Crabby Jerry's dock, with some Mimosas and Bloody Mary's for the spectators. Much more news to come. Put it on your calendar.
In my last post I told you that the regatta was cancelled. The Greenport Regatta still is. HOWEVER Shelter Island Yacht Club is going to run the Greenport Ocean Race for the Brooklyn Ocean Challenge Cup. Stay tuned for details. Some things to note: 1. There will be no Bay Race. 2. It will be a night race starting at 1600.... 3. The date will be Friday, September 27th. 4. You can choose to round Block Island in either direction. MORE NEWS TO FOLLOW
An illness in the family prevents me from devoting the time necessary to run this regatta this year. After discussion with the committee, we have decided to CANCEL the 2019 Greenport Regatta. We will see you again October 10th, 2020. The committee will use the extra time to make the event even bigger and better. Thank you for your understanding.

This year we will be changing our name to The Greenport Regatta.
This won't happen in our race, because all of our courses are in deep water and there are no shortcuts. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wzo2XBtl8cM I particularly like the part around 1:40

Sedge Ward, Andrew Ward , Matthew Kapell, Joshua Kapell, George Ryan, Daniel Cameron, Phoenix Bliss. Great sailing guys. William Randolph Hearst donated that trophy 114 years ago. I think he'd be happy to see this.
