Join us for the panel discussion "Power & Purpose: The History of Community Murals," on Tuesday, April 13, 2021, at 5pm ET (via Zoom). Coinciding with the National Academy of Design’s open call for proposals for the Abbey Mural Prize, this panel conversation co-organized with Groundswell and moderated by our Executive Director Robyne Walker Murphy will look at the complicated and community-driven history of murals as an act of liberation. Joining Robyne are panelists sel...ected by Groundswell: Sophia Dawson, visual artist; Joe Matunis, artist, and director of Los Muralistas de El Puente; and Victor A. Saint-Hilaire, multidisciplinary artist . Particularly interested in distinguishing between commercial murals and community murals, the talk will focus on community buy-in and collective voice as important factors in a mural’s success. Groundswell's Manager of Mural Operations and Artist Relations, Amelia Calsi will host our new Instagram Live series Behind The Brush. The first episode of the show will premiere March 19th at 6:00PM EST on our Instagram Live (@gswellmural). The monthly show will see Calsi interview Groundswell artists to learn more about their Groundswell roots and professional artistic practices.
