Groundswell Community Mural Project 02.05.2021

Join us for the panel discussion "Power & Purpose: The History of Community Murals," on Tuesday, April 13, 2021, at 5pm ET (via Zoom). Coinciding with the National Academy of Design’s open call for proposals for the Abbey Mural Prize, this panel conversation co-organized with Groundswell and moderated by our Executive Director Robyne Walker Murphy will look at the complicated and community-driven history of murals as an act of liberation. Joining Robyne are panelists sel...ected by Groundswell: Sophia Dawson, visual artist; Joe Matunis, artist, and director of Los Muralistas de El Puente; and Victor A. Saint-Hilaire, multidisciplinary artist . Particularly interested in distinguishing between commercial murals and community murals, the talk will focus on community buy-in and collective voice as important factors in a mural’s success. Reservations are requested; RSVP here http://ow.ly/8oiX50EgY1i. #NationalAcademy #NationalAcademyofDesign #Groundswell #GroundswellNYC #GroundswellMural #GSWellMural #AbbeyMural #AbbeyMuralPrize #RobyneWalkerMurphy #SophiaDawson #JoeMatunis #VictorASaintHilaire #LosMuralistasdeElPuente #SocialActivism #CommunityEngagement #CommunityArt #PublicMural #PublicMurals #Murals #ArtHistory #AmericanArt #AmericanHistory #Liberation #CollectiveAction
