What happens when a CEO cuts their salary by $1 million in order to increase workers' wages? The media calls it a "stunt" and some clients walk away, but five years later... Employees are happier and providing better service, profits tripled, and customer retention grew. The part that makes me the happiest is that employees are also having more "big life" events; their small company has seen 40 new babies being born. Kinda makes sense, right? ... Read more about Dan Price, the CEO who led what he calls a "moral imperative" to pay workers what they actually deserve. https://www.inc.com//p/does-more-pay-mean-more-growth.html
Are you one of the 62% of workers who report eating lunch at their desks? With most of my work life being virtual now, my boundaries for taking personal time have become almost nonexistent. Putting work down is crucial for avoiding burnout, if you are able to do so. What do you think about the statistics in this article? https://hbr.org/2021/01/take-your-lunch-break
CANstruciton is one of the biggest and most creative local non-profit events around, and this year it's going virtual. Participants can create teams to raise donations. Who wants to team up?! Start thinking of good pun team names... #CANstruction #capitalregion #foodpantries

Habitat ReStore is the best!
I’m always looking for new resources and insights that I can pass on to my clients. I wanted to share one of my favorite podcasts, Brown Ambition. It features Tiffany Aliche (The Budgetnista, you may have seen her on the new season of Queer Eye) and Mandi Woodruff, bringing their deep knowledge to discuss every possible topic around money you can imagine. This episode in particular I found very helpful because it includes questions about credit and credit cards, an overview of what a relationship with a financial planner looks like, DIY investing, FOREX, and so much more. Give it a listen and tell me what you think! https://brownambitionpodcast.com/ep-230-ok-why-is-everyone/
Do you consider yourself a resilient person? No matter your answer, I'm sure you've been tested in some way over the past year. I'm looking forward to the Women's Business Council's first event of the year, with Yolanda Caldwell of the College of St. Rose leading us on a discussion about inspiring resilience in each other. #resiliency #community #wbc #capitalregion
This was a surprising and touching video about how clothes can help us express our true selves. Expressing our truth comes with the side effects of huge amounts of confidence and joy. How do you express yourself?
Why is socially responsible investing important? In the traditional way of investing, an investment manager creates a portfolio of investments for us, based on our goals and time horizon. As long as our numbers are going up over time, everything seems good. What typically isn’t talked about is what is actually in those investments. You might be invested in companies and industries that directly conflict with your personal values. For instance, someone who believes in cle...an energy might have several oil stocks. Or someone who believes in justice system reform might have private prison stock, like in the investments in this article below, and not even know it. If this seems overwhelming, don’t worry. There are lots of resources and strategies to start investing responsibly. If you are interested in starting the process, tune back in tomorrow and I’ll walk you through the first step! https://www.cnn.com//investing/prison-stocks-mu/index.html
Maintaining social distancing has been difficult after a long two months, especially with the weather being so gorgeous. If you need some motivation to continue, here's an article from National Geographic about the 1918 Spanish Flu, and how it affected cities across the country (including our own Albany, NY!). The cities that had bimodal (two peaks) of infection rates are those that eased up on social distancing measures earlier than others. There's always something to learn from history. Stay safe, everyone! With love, Hannah
Looking for a way to help someone in need? You probably have a few things in your pantry now that can help the residents of the YWCA in Troy. They are looking for cleaning supplies, non perishable food, and baby care items. If you have something you’d like to donate, let me know and I will pick it up from your doorstep. Or, send over a few bucks. Easy!
Greetings, YWCA-GCR community! It's time for an update. Our 102 year-old, 55,000 square foot building is home to 94 women and over a dozen children every single... day. The roof over all of those heads is over 20 years old and after years of patching and repairs, the time has come for it to be fully replaced. We are seeking contractors, preferably MWBE (Minority and Women-Owned Business Enterprise), to provide us with quotes on this project. Please tag any contractors you recommend in this post and share widely! #YWCAIsOnAMission #EliminatingRacism #EmpoweringWomen #MWBE
